A challenge

Posted by Picasa
I have recieved a challenge from Hanne and Laila.
The challenge goes like this:
Pick out picture nr. 6 from folder nr. 6 on you pc.

My picture is one I actually forgot about. It is taken with my camera outside the house we moved from (a year ago). It is a pic of the sunrise at 08.48 in the morning 31.10.2007
I really like this photo, but I'm glad I have an even lovlier wiew where I live today:o) Where we live now, we are having the most wonderful scenes of sunrises, sundowns, wiewing the thunderstorms in the summer and a lot of other things that goes on in the sky.

I will send this challenge forward to Darcie, Hannequilt,Abyquilt, Gro and Julie.

This last week have been a looong week, with not much sewing. But I look forward to get some sewing done after a lovely dinner today, and I am going to continue on some of the projects i want to finish for the challenge I joined, and maybe some quilting on the little quilt with stars I am soon finished with.
I have some new ideas on the quilting, and I am going to make a practice piece to try it on.

Quilting...

Finally I got to quilt a little bit on my little quilt. I did some tiny meandering on the stars, and now I'll have to figure out how to quilt the blocks, around the stars. I'm not shure I want to do meandering here, and how much I want to quilt it. if I quilt a pattern that fills all the space between the stars, i am afraid the quilt will look a bit boring... and maybe flat. Don't you think? Anyway, i did cut for 18 more blocks of these. I want to do a larger quilt using this red and lights. I really like them a lot! It would look nice with a scrappy border surrounding the star blocks.
The next days will be filled with a lot of other things than sewing and quilting, because we are having arrangements at work that will keep me busy Wednesday and Thursday. But I'm off work on Friday, and that will be a looong sewing day for me:o) Look forward to that!

Some red and white with a scrappy look :o)

I've never used much red fabrics in my projects, but this week end I used
only red and white in a little baby quilt. I have been buying some red fabrics now and then, to get to use them in a quilt. I want to to a quilt in red and light fabrics, with the four patches, I really like those tiny ones:o) I bought the Buggy Barn book "Gone Crazy", at Quiltegården in November last year, but haven't had time to use it before now. I love the crazy looking stars, and started cutting yesterday. I finished piecing the bocks today, and joined them into this little quilt.
The only trouble is, I cannot figure out how to quilt it. It's been too long since I did practise freemotion quilting, and I gave up after I tried two times... Guess I'll have to practise som more before I get any further on this.

Playing around

I have been playing both with Picasa, and with fabrics today:o)
I got to finish a block from one of Judy Martin's books. A scrappy star of course!
This was a really tricky block, but now that I've made this first one, I know how to do it. The tricky part was to find out which way to iron the seems. I love this block! Even if it's a tricky one, and the cutting is a lot different than I usually do it.
Just because i played with it in Picasa, I did add two pics of my baby quilt as well:o)
Hope to finish that one by the end of February!

Some more progress

Yeehaa! Today I finished my "secret project". It's a project for Easter... That's all I want to share for now, but you'll get to see it soon:o)

I also finished some more rows on the "Smokey mountain stars" today.
Now 6 rows are sewn together, and just a few more to go:o) I like this scrap quilt more and more, and I am already thinking of what to to when this is finished.

Some time ago, I saw the most beautiful quilt over at Julie's blog. I just fell in love with it, and she gave me the name, and posted a picture of hers and the progress on it. Take a look, I bet you'll feel the same way i did!!!

It's called "Girls Day Out", and it's a BOM project. I got my first block from Kirkbride Quilting a couple of weeks ago, but have not had time to sit down with it yet, BUT I WILL SOON!!! I have never seen this before I spotted it on Julie's blog. So it will be fun to see if any of you others will join us too:o) Right Julie?

I tried to change my blog a bit today, but I cannot figure out how to get the color of the background wider... Any of you have figured out that? If you can give me a hint, I'll be more than happy!!!

Whish you all a great week:o)

My goals for February

I have made up my mind about what project I will finish for the Challenge 2009/February.
I have several things laying around in my seewing room, so it's not hard to find some UFO's/WISP's... :o)

My first one is to finish up this wool socks (Selbusokker) for my kids. Have been working on these this winter, between sewing. They don't look so big, but they are for my big feet boys:o)

Next one is a toiletry bag. I did get this far when I started on it, two years ago... Guess it's about time for me to finish it...

The third one is a baby quilt i started last week. I found all the half square triangles in my scrap bin, so I just had to square them up, and cut the sashing. Even the corner stones was lying there, precut... :o) The half square triangles was "left overs" from a quilt I did sew a long time ago (August 2007).
I pieced the last pieces today, and I am not shure to leave it this way, or to add an outher border before the binding. I am making a binding with some of the fabrics already used in this quilt. I made this just to have something to get to practice some freemotion quilting.
I could just quilt it crosswise both ways, or do some more intricate stuff... Guess I'll have to figure it out before the end of the month :o)

I really look forward to see what you other ladies are going to work on this month.

My finish #2 for January

Didn't think this would ever be finished. I made abig mistake, and cut the stitchery too much :o(
But even if I couldn't follow the pattern at every step, I just made some of it a little different.
I think it turned out ok.

Inside I can put some embrodery thread and pins/needles.
And maybe a scissor to go:o)
This is a free pattern from Cinderberry Stitches. I like the patterns Natalie makes, and have a few others I would love to work on soon.

So... now I'll have to figure out what to have for the Febuary finish...
I'll have to sleep on that:o)
Whish you all a great Sunday, and happy seewing :o)

Jippi! A finished project for the challenge :o)

Back in blogland and back to sewing, after some awful days with migraine earlier this week. Have not been sewing so much but:
Finally, a finished project!
I did start the stitching on this wallhanging a long time ago, and even got the button that belongs to it... But now, it's finished, I just need to get a
quilt hanger for it to get it up on my wall:o) I have several, but of course, they are not the right size...
Guess I'll have to go shopping:o)

Hope to get my needle case finished by the end of the month too, so I'll just have to keep on sewing. Hopefully I get to sew on my scrap quilt again too.

From Bodil I got this cute award the other day:

Thank you so much Bodil:o)

Changed my name...

If any of you wonder... Yes, I changed the name of my blog today. I like this one better:o)
I've been wondering a little bit about creating some stuff on my own, for a long time. So we'll see...
Guess it's about time I give it a try?

Happy sewing,

My blue heaven

I finally got to take a picture of the "My Blue Heaven" quilt today. I forgot to post it earlier, but her it is. Just the inner and outher border missing still. Don't know when I'll get on with that, but time for that will come. Soon I hope:o) Hubby helped me holding it up, so I could get the pic of it:o)

I love the scrap quilts so much, I just know I'll be doing more of these.
Haven't figured out wich one is the next, but after I'm done with my mom's quilt, the "Smokey Mountain Stars", I will spend some time doing what I have as a goal for the 2009 Callenge.
I am done piecing 8 of the 13 rows, and can't wait to join the rows together, then the main part will be finished:o)
Happy sewing,

Laila

Progress on my scrap quilt

Have been sewing almost all day today, and I had so much fun doing this quilt! I did start the layout tonight, just to see if I had to change something, and to decide the colors on the last triangles that will make the sawtooth border all the way around. I like the scrap quilts so much, because I think they have a different personality than other quilts, and they are so exciting to look at. And of course, a great way to do some stash busting:o)
I'm off to work again tomorrow, but I hope to get to sew some in the evening:o)

Happy sewing,

Scrap quilt in progress

I have been playing with my scraps the last days. I found this pattern over at Bonnie's place, and I figured out I wanted to make a scrapquilt for my mom right away. The pattern is called "Smokey Mountain Stars". I did spend some hours with the cutting on Sunday, and on Monday I could start piecing:o) Cute, aren't they? I love them, and I am half way with piecing the blocks that will in the end be pieced into rows, and then the star appears.
I am having a day off work today, and I have planned to spend some time with my dear Bernina, and maybe get the bunch of blocks that's left, pieced. Look forward to try quilting this :o)

Sigrun is having a challenge over at her place, go check it out, it's fun:o)

Playing som more:c)

I decided to make one more post tonight, while am into playing in Picasa. Guess I'll teach as I go :o)
This was so fun!! This is a couple of pics from my painting days. I have been painting on porcelain ealier, but when I started sewing, I just stopped doing it... I miss painting, and I have all the stuff I used for this, including my ceramic kiln, and a bunch of bins with white china/porcelain, stored away. I was thinking of starting painting again, but it doesn't mix well in the same room with my sewing. Too dusty, so trying to paint in the same room would be a disaster, and just wasted time. Everything around must be completely dust free. But I know I'll be painting again, someday:o)

Happy sewing,

Something different

I have been trying so many times to make a collage with using the Picasa, but have failed time and time again. Until I got some help from a dear angel, Hanne:o) And after figuring out how to do this, I just had to make a test. So it's the same pics I've showed on my blog before, but got to play safe;-)

One block done...

Whooowhooo! Finished, after working on the block for three days! But it's worth it, I really like it, and can't wait to get started on the next block! I did change the fabric around the geese section, the other one did blend too much with the pink fabrics. Now I have to get started on the monthly challenge projects.
I am excited to see how many of my wisp's and UFO's I can get done over the next months, but I hope to do at least one a month.
Happy sewing,
Laila

Just had to try this...

I just couldn't wait any longer to try this one. I bought the pattern several months ago at Quiltegården, and I just had to try to piece it together today. I didn't get it done, but I pieced the flying geese together, and tomorrow I'll handpiece the block together. This was quite time consuming, but very fun. The block is one from the pattern called "Gåsemor" by Sara Bolster. It is several of these goose blocks, and the other blocks is handpieced stars. It was not easy to find fabrics with the right colors, but I think these will do well together. Time flies so fast when you're having fun, and soon it's midnight, and I just have to jump to bed. It's work tomorrow for me and Hubby, and first day at school for the kids after a long and lovely Christmas vacation. It has been a cold day today like yesterday, but we did spend some time outside anyway. It started snowing again tonight, and I hope it will not snow too much till tomorrow.

Good night, sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite:o)

A giveaway

Elin "Lappetausa" has a giveaway over at her blog. She is celebrating her 300th post! If you pop over at her blog, be shure to take a look at her lovely SBS quilt, too. It is just georgeos!
Happy sewing,
Laila

A new Dear Jane Block

I made a new Dear Jane block tonight, and this was a fun block to make. But I didn't get it quite perfect in the middle. Guess I should have checked that before I started to do the needleturn applique, but lesson learned...

I also figured out what to make for the 2009 Challenge, and
I am going to finish a wallhanging I started more than two years ago, and a needlecase I started on a few months ago. The last one was a free pattern from Cinderberry Stitches. I think it's so sweet! So now I know where to start:o) The wallhanging is an Art to Heart pattern. I really like the patterns Nancy Halvorsen makes, and I have collected a lot of her books over the years I've been doing patchwork. It will be fun to work on these again!

Happy sewing,
Laila

A beautiful day

It was such a lovely and sunny day today, even if it was a bit cold. We went to visit my parents, and we just had to stop to take some photos. It's pretty cold, almost 10 degrees below zero, so it is a cold haze over the snowcovered lake. The kids where playing outside in the snow today. It's been snowing heavy every day since early Wednesday till last night.
But I like the snow, it all looks so clean...

Mats, Thomas and Cora (my parents dog) are having some cold fun. Mats looks a bit not satisfied, but he was looking another way when the camera was shooting :o) Cora is almost 10 years, and I bet she is the nicest rottweiler ever! She loves the kids, and love playing with them.

I am working on another block for my Dear Jane, but it's not done yet, but I guess it will be later tonight:o)
I'll post a pic of it tomorrow, with the project I have decided to be the project of this month. I have not decided that yet, but I am working on it...

Happy sewing,
Laila

A challenge, how fun!

I've joined in a challenge to finish a project a month. I decided to join, so I'll have to complete some of my UFO's,WISP's and of corse, work on some new things, too!!
This is a challenge May Britt and Kris came up with, I know this will be so fun!

I have been working on my blue and brown double 4patch for the last two days, and I am soon done with the blocks for the intire quilt. Have not decided yet, if I am going to add a border or not. It is from a pattern i did find on Mary's website. She makes so many lovely quilts!
I have not taken any photo of it yet, but I will as soon as I am done piecing it together.
I did also finish the main part of "My Blue Heaven" a couple of days ago, and now I have to finish the blocks for the border. I have some of them already done, but I have to finish at least 40 blocks, and I need about 78..... It is a pattern made by Bonnie. I love the scrap quilts she make, and this one is my favourite.
