The block I like the most

This is the block I like the most of all Dear Jane blocks. And I bet it is one of the most difficult ones, too... I started on it yesterday, and wasn't finished before today. I did handpiece all of the "leafs" on top of the block. I did use the iron a bit too hard, but it'll pass:o)
Now I'm planning on another one, and I have not decided which one yet, but I have to take a little break first:o)
Happy sewing,

Cannot stop!

Since I got the DJ software for Christmas, I just cannot stop wanting to sew these lovely blocks!!! It is so much easier when I can print out the templates instead of drawing them with a pencil. I can print the templates directly on the freezerpaper, and it makes the progress so much faster! I made this block earlier today. I did sew the hearts on by hand with the freezerpaper still on the back, and then cut out a piece of fabric on the back of the block to remove the paper. Fast and easy :o)
Better go, got to make another one:o)

One more post today

Had to post one more today. I finished my pincushion from "Poppy's sewing set" tonight. And I was lucky, I did find ONE red button in one of the boxes in my sewing room. I like it! Thanks again Gail, for the nice surprise earlier this year! But it's almost too sweet to have a lot of pins in it...
Well, the other one I have is worn out, so I guess I just have to use it:o) Now I have to finish the stitching for the sewing bag and needle case. I'm almost done with one of the stitcheries, so it won't take long.
Happy sewing,
Laila

One more...

Had the time to work on my DJ-blocks today, too. And I got another of them finished before dinner today. This is block C-3 Rayelle's Fence. Used the freezerpaper method on it, and it's almost perfect. It would not lie flat while I was taking the picture, so it doesn't look square, but it is:o)
We are having my parents over for dinner tonight, so I don't have time to sew more, yet. Maybe later tonight. I also want to finish my pincussion from Poppy's sewingset I started on earlier, so maybe I'll get on with it before I start sewing more of these blocks:o) They are so fun to do, and I am in a mood for doing these still, so... We'll se. Gotta go, my potatos are boiling, and it's just one hour before we get visitors.
Happy sewing,
Laila

Another block done!

Tonight I got another DJ-block done. It's not 100% perfect, but I'll let it pass. I love this blue fabric, and think it turned out nice.
I love this puzzling with small blocks, and I hope I have the patience to do them all... I'ts a lot of work, but it is fun to do between other projects.
I just had to add a picture of our Christmas tree. We are so satisfied with it, and we love the small lights on it:o) So kozy!!!
Happy sewing,
Laila

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to everyone!
I'm so happy! I got the Dear Jane quilt design software from my boys and hubby for Christmas. Today I have been checking it out, and started on with designing a wall quilt. I want to make a blue/white one, and this is my first block for this quilt. I will choose fabrics as I go, I have no special plan other than blue and white fabrics, so I guess I'll do some stashbusting here:o)

At Christmas Eve, we had dinner with my parents and my brothers family, at my parents house. It was such a kozy event with lovely dinner my mom made for us, and it was so nice to see the kids having fun and enjoing unwrapping their presents after the dinner. They where all so thankful for their gifts. And of corse all of us grown ups where happy, too. We got a lot of nice presents, too. But the best thing about Christmas, is being together. That's what really matters. I feel so lucky to be able to have my hole family around me at Christmas Eve.
Santa did pay us a visit, too! And even if some of our kids are to old to belive in Santa, they all enjoyed the visit. So fun!
Hope you all enjoy the Holidays,
Laila

Gingerbread house

Finally we are done with the Christmas presents and baking. The only thing left now, is the rest of decorating the house. We have a tradition to decorate the Christmas tree the day before Christmas Eve, but we might be doing that a bit earlier this year. The kids and their dad finished the Gingerbread house, yesterday, and I think it looks great! I have been sewing some more on my stitchery today, too. And I am almost done with stitching on the pincussoin. I'll post a picture of it when I'm finished with it.
I look forward to the Christmas Holidays, spending time with family and friends. I also hope to get some time to settle down and do some more stitching between.

Happy sewing,

Laila

A little bit of stitching...

Back in August, I won a pattern from Gail Pan. "Poppy's sewing set". I haven't been doing stitchery for a long time, and just had to start on it. It has been waiting so long for me now.
Not much progress yet, but hopefully there will be some in the next days... I have decided to do all four pieces in this set. They are so sweet! And I do really need a needle case and a sewing bag, 'cause I don't have any. And my pin cushion is about worn out... Used well!
Happy stitching to you, too!

Still not ready for Christmas

This is the start on my table runner. Have not been working on it since Saturday, so I better get it done soon...
Maybe I'll be sewing some tonight.
Haven't been baking for Christmas yet, but tonight the kids are going to make ginger breads. It is our little tradition, the kids with some help, makes them.
There is a lot to do before Christmas yet, but I'll get there :o)

A new blog is born. Check it out: Mange blokker små

Back in Blogland again

It's so good to be back in Blogland again!! I never got my old computer back from service, so the dealer had to get me a new one. I got it yesterday, on my birthday:o) Could not get better:o) Good timing!
I am really satisfied with my new one. It is a lot better than the older one, and I hope it will stay that way too....
I have not been sewing much lately, just been knitting socks for my boys. They are only 11yrs, but they use the same size in shoes as their dad... So it takes some time to be knitting for them all. Only one pair to go:o)
I'll post a photo of them later, i have not taken any yet.
Today I did start on a table runner for myself. It is a Christmas table runner, like the one I did last year. It is a design from AnnaKa again:o) I like her designs so much.
I hope to get it done some time this week end.
I really look forward to check out all my favourite blogs again.
See you soon,
Laila

Blogging again

Have been sewing a lot, but my computer went black the day after my last post and I have to repair it, for the third time:-(
So in the meantime, I am borrowing my oldest son's computer. Gotta blog!! *lol*

I've had the honor of meeting Hanne Shcneider this weekend. I signed up for her class with Dear Jane. Here she is in front of her lovely "Dear Jane" quilt. She quilted this by hand!
We had a wonderful weekend with Hanne at Quiltegården, and it was so inspiring!
Hanne is such a nice person, and Ireally hope I'll get the chance to meet her again. I know I'll be working a lot with these blocks. This was really fun!! Thanks for the inspiration Hanne!

She also brought her beautiful quilt "Nearly insane". It was absolutely stunning! So much work!

I managed to make three blocks from the Dear Jane this weekend. I know I'll have to practice some more before they are perfect, but it is the first time I am sewing with this method, so I guess they'll pass:-)

I have been working on a cople of new table runners, after finishing my "Festfin frøken", and I am working on one in the same colors, and one with blue cirkcles. This is the result of the first purple one:
I hand pieced a lot of pearls on the ribbon, and they are just making a soft impression I think.
Now I gotta get back to my sewing machine and get some serious sewing done:-)

Happy sewing to you all!

Purple love

Still working on my purple table runner, "Festfin Frøken". I think it turned out just lovely. I love these fabrics so much, I know I'll be working a lot more with these:O) Imagine these fabrics with stitcheries in dark purple DMC, on white fabric... Mmmm... Jummy...
Today I pieced the top together, and I managed to start on the quilting. Hope to get it done before I jump to bed tonight, even if it's going to be late...
This is how it looked before I started with the quilting:

Sewing in circles

Went shopping at Quiltegården Wednesday, and could not let these darling fabrics stay there. Had to take them home, and I'll already started taking good care of them;-)

I started cutting some of them, and I've got some circles done, and some more are on their way.
I made earlier this year a table runner called "Festfin frøken", and it is another one I'm going to do. I just did fall in love with these gorgeous fabrics, I really did find my purple!! I love the dusty colors, and look so forward to see if it turns out like I think. More pictures to come later.

Another finish

Finally I got the other Advent table runner finished:-) I made this one a bit smaller than the other one. I like the colors for Advent so much, so I'll have to make one to myself too. The ones I made, I will take with me at a Christmas sale we are having the last week end of November. It's the first time I'm joining the other craft ladies in my neighborhood, and I am so looking forward to it. I have not sewn a lot of stuff, yet... But I'll try to make some more till then. It's only me with patchwork, so I have no clue what people are interested in buying. It's just fun, and since it's a yearly event, I guess I'll be joining them next year too, and I am looking forward to that too:-)

Happy sewing,

Knitting and sewing

Have been sewing a bit this week end. Almost finished a new Advent table runner like the one I made a little while ago, and made another toilet bag like the one I did sew last time. I'll post a picture of the table runner when I'm done with the binding. It is a bit smaller than the other one.

I have been knitting between the sewing now and then, and I'm working on a pair of socks in purple and white. I've also made a pair in blue/white. It is called "Selbustrikk", an old traditional pattern from Selbu, a place outside Trondheim, where I live. I have always liked the mittens and socks from these patterns, and I can still remember my best friend got mittens like these from her grandmother when we where kids. And hers where always warm, while mine where so cold after playing in the snow for some time.
I bought the pattern from Selbu Husflid, and I use wool yarn for these. The pattern has 42 projects for knitting inside.

One year Blog anniversary !!!

I found out it is 1 year today since I started blogging. The time goes by so fast, I wish it would slow down a little bit...
But I guess we all have to enjoy the moment, and be grateful for every day that comes.

It reminds me of a saying I like :
Time is precious, use it well:-)

I have not been sewing today, just been cleaning up a bit in my sewing room. So this is where I create my stuff:-)

I have to get some furniture to store my stash, since it is all stored in bins, standing on the floor. My design wall has to be placed up on the wall, it's now just standing behind my sewing table. We moved into our new home this Easter, so I'll be getting there someday soon:-) A lot of other stuff that's more important to take care of:-)

Wish you all a great Autumn Sunday,

Laila

Advent table runner

Jippi! Did finish the Advent table runner too, today. Only two more of these to go:-)

Toilet bag

Still working on my blue and brown quilt, but I figured I should do something with the small left overs.... When I've been working on the quilt, I piece different blue and brown strips together and cut these in half 4 patches and put them together to a 4 patch. Sometimes there is more than 1 1/2" left overs at the end, and I've saved them and pieced them together into two rectangles. Did some free motion quilting and made this little toilet bag of it. I think it's sweet:-) I did not use any pattern, just found a zipper long enough, and I used the templates for making scallops to make the top, and pieced the thing together. Got a lot of similar scraps/left overs, so I will make several of them, now I now the measures are right. Guess I can call it my prototype:-)
The quilting is not perfect at all, since this was my first try on the butterflies, but it'll do. I'm gonna keep this myself (for once...) so it's fine by me:-)
I have also worked on the binding on my Advent table runner the last week, so i guess I'll be finished with it today:-)

Happy sewing!

Blue and brown double 4 patch

I couldn't resist making something of my blue and brown fabrics, mostly Japanese fabrics. I just love them. Some of them are old ones, so I'm still stash busting:-)
I did find the pattern over at Mary's blog a long time ago, and I have wanted to do this for so long. I think it will turn out pretty nice. Just look so forward to get to the quilting part!!
I thought I would make a baby quilt, but I follow the pattern at this time, so we'll see... Maybe I'll make another one later in other colors. Pink and brown would be gorgeous...
Now when the Autumn has come, I know there will be a lot of time spent by the sewing machine, so I'll maybe get some of my earlier projects done too. I have been thinking a lot about presents for Christmas, so I have a lot of things to do. I better get moving:-)

Happy sewing,
Laila

A weekend with sewing

I have been struggling with some head and neck pain lately, and have not been sewing much. This weekend I got some sewing done, and it was so good to finally sit down and enjoy what I love the most. I started on a bag/purse more than a year ago, and I finished it today:-) Jippi!!
I took a class making this bag/purse some years ago, and I have been using the one I made since then, and it is absolutely worn out. It was really about time to make a new one, and I love it:-)

Some days ago I got the BOM#2 from Lappemakeriet. It was an envelope with fabrics and paper pieces for three more stars for this lovely quilt. I got to start working on it this weekend, too. And I look forward to get the two others done as well. It does not take so much time as I believed at first, so I guess it will be fun to finish it.

I am also working on "Leanne's House". I started in July this year with it, but have not posted any photos of it in my blog, so here is one of the blocks I'm working on. I love this quilt, and cannot wait to get it done, so I can decorate my living room with it:-)
This is one of the stitcheries on block #5, the one in the middle.

I wish you all a lovely Atumn,

Laila

Orion Star quilt in progress and blog awards

I got these two awards from Blåbærtua:

Thank you so much:-)
I'm happy to give them to:

Blåbærtua - Of course you deserve to have the awards back! Your blog is great, and you do wonderful work!
May Britt - She makes such wonderful things, and I love her "words for today".
Darcie - I am a fan of her quilting, she's a great artist! And she is always so positive!
Tazzie - She makes so many lovely things. Check it out!
Bonnie - For being such a source to inspiration, and for sharing her knowledge on scrapquilts. And she is a master of making mystery quilts!

So many others should have these awards, but this time I will not make a longer list.

Finally I got to do some more blocks on my Orion Star quilt. I finished 14 blocks this weekend. I'll have to go shopping for blue and brown Japanese fabrics, I have used them all up! I will have to make the same amount of blocks to make it big enough, so that means buying 5 of each. I think I'm taking the trip to Quiltegården next week:-)
I also made some more blocks for "My blue heaven". Only 8 blocks left to do, and they are already half done:-) Cannot wait to get to the finishing part!!!
I have not had progress on my OTR this weekend, as I decided to clean up my sewing room a bit, and get some of the projects I have laying around in my room, finished. A bit more tidy now:-)
But I have so many projects going on... too many... I guess I'll have to finish some more... Several of them are precut, and just ready to sew... Hope to have some time in the future days to sew some more:-)
Earlier this week I did some of the blocks for the BOM I am part of. Åttebladrose fra Lappemakeriet.
It is a beautiful quilt, and when I saw the picture over at Hanne's blog, I just could not resist joining it! Check it out!

Some progress on the mystery

I managed to get some pinwheels done on my mystery this weekend. But only 20....
I started putting some of the blocks together, to see how it will look like. I'm not sure yet, but I guess it will be ok with these colors in between.

One of the reasons I didn't get to sew more than I did this weekend, is that my dear took the Bernina with him, as he went to make me a sewing table. He is such a handyman!!! Look at the awesome table he made for me! He had this table stuffed away at work, and he made a case for the machine, and made a plate of plastic glass surrounding the machine. It fits just perfect! The hight is just perfect for me, and now I don't need to worry about having my shoulders up to my ears anymore:-) I guess this means a lot more sewing for me now:-)

Happy sewing!

Progress on the mystery

I have only been working on my Old Tobacco Road mystery quilt today, and I am happy about the result so far. 116 4patches and 4 pinwheels. I also used the end when I did subcut for the 4patches, and cut these 1,5" wide, did sew them together and cut them to 2,5" blocks. Do not have a plan with them yet, but if I get a hole bunch, maybe I'll use them for a border or something, or a scrap Irish chain quilt. I've wanted to the Irish chain for a while, so maybe??
I think this mystery is so exciting to do, and I know I'll learn a lot about scrap quilts. I really like those, and I know I'll be doing a lot more later too. I know this mystery quilt is going to be a huge one, so maybe I'll get one of my own to throw on my bed? I hope so:-) I really like the way Bonnie makes the scrap quilts, and I honestly made all of my 4patches without a pin!! I used only my stiletto, and it worked great, just as long as I didn't speed the pieces through the machine. The pinwheels I did not take any chance with, so I did pin those:-) *lol*

Happy sewing to you all,

Laila

Old Tobacco Road Mystery quilt

I'm taking part of a mystery quilt:-) I started early this morning when i got the first part of Bonnie's Old Tobacco Road Mystery Quilt. I am so excited! This is fun!
Started cutting a hole bunch

of neutrals this morning, and in the evening I started cutting some of the other fabrics I think I will use to make the 4 patches. I'm not sure if I am gonna use them all, but the left overs will be used for other projects if they don't. Anyway, I will try to get this done without thinking too much about colors, because I really like the scrappy look in quilts like this:-) Maybe it's so much fun to do, that I will make an other one in different colors later? Who knows. I'm excited to see the next part of the mystery, and I think it will be released pretty soon:-)

Happy sewing,

Laila

Almost there....

The Advent table runner is almost finished. I finished piecing it today, and I am almost done with the quilting. Only the outer border that needs quilting now. I have to add the appliquéd hearts and the binding, and it's done:-) I don't have much fancy seems on my Bernina, so I just put some stars randomly as I quilted.
Then it's two more that waits to get finished. I am done piecing them, so I guess I'll be finished with them in the next few days.

The days go so fast, and it's soon weekend again. I hope to get time to sew some more in the weekend, and I am curious about the mystery quilt Bonnie is up to. She'll give the first instructions on Friday(tomorrow), and I think I'll take a part of the mystery this time. I have only been following all the other ladies doing the previous mysteries. We'll see...

Happy sewing:-)

Disappearing 9patch

After having a weekend with some terrible headache (migraine) and no sewing, finally I could have some time with my sewing machine again yesterday :-)
I have seen several of the disappearing 9patch quilts on the web, and I have wanted to do one for so long. And I also wanted to make something not so big, to practice quilting on. I think I'll to try to make a babyquilt or something of the blocks, but we'll see. I have no idea yet, how this is going to be quilted, but maybe with some light pink thread?
I have only pieced the purple blocks in rows till now, for the advent table runners, but I will try to do some more with them today. This is a picture of the fabrics I've used. I really love them!

Just a picture of the quilt in red and neutrals. I have to buy more neutrals before I can do more with this. I have used almost all of my light prints on this and the "My blue heaven", so it's staying in the UFO-bin for so long...

On Saturday I received a message on my blog from Gail Pan, and I was thrilled!!! I went to her blog, like she asked me to, and I feel so lucky!! She did draw my name among the three lucky winners for her new pattern "Poppy's sewing set". You can see it here. I look so forward to get the pattern from her, because I really love it, especially the pincushion. It is sooo beautiful!
Cannot wait to get started on it! So this one is for you Gail:-)

Busy week...

Then it's back to business again. The kids are back on school again, and no more lazy days. But since it's the end of the week, it is so nice it's a couple of days off, before it's off to work/school again:-)

Been sewing a lot of blocks for a project from the magazine called Quiltemagasinet. It is a table runner for Advent. It's a pattern from AnnAKa
I just love her patterns, she is one of the most talented designers from Norway, that's for sure!
I'll post some pictures of it tomorrow, I guess I'll be able to piece it together then:-)
Happy sewing!

Project finished

Summer holidays are over, and we finally had some lovely sunny days, so I did not get much sewing done. But I finished a table runner I started on two years ago, and I am pretty satisfied with the result. I really love the blue and grey fabrics.
I hope to get some more sewing done again soon, and I hope to finish my "Blue heaven". Just a few more blocks now, and the top is soon done, ready to be quilted. Yeeha!

Happy sewing to you all!!!
