Out of practice...

Yesterday I finished the little secret I've been working on this month. I'm pretty satisfied with the result.
It's my second "Winter Blooms", designed by Gail Pan. This is my favorite pattern made by her.

I made this quilt for Quiltegården a while back, and that one is still hanging in the shop so people who wants to buy the pattern can see what it looks like.

This is how "Winter Blooms" #2 turned out:

This one will be hanging on my wall, in our living room, and I can't wait to finish quilting it and do the binding!
I used some of the same fabrics like in the first one, and added some others with them.

Now...I do have a little problem... I've used all the dark brown fabric I had, in the quilt, and I also wanted to make the binding with the same one ( the one in the small border), so if anyone knows where to get it PLEASE let me know!!!
I bought the last piece Quiltegården had of it... so they're out too...

Late last night I loaded the quilt on to the longarm machine, and tried a few seams...but gave up. Too tired, so I thought I should give it a try tonight. But nah... didn't work, and I ended up unripping the seams over and over... I REALLY need to practice a lot more to get it like I want it to be. I'm a very impatient person, and hate to practice too much, and it's a downside about that, I KNOW!

These seams are not ripped out yet, but I will do that tomorrow, but it will give you an idea of how I am planning to do this. It will look good when I just get some more practice :o) Not giving up yet!

I signed up for the "Another year of Schnibble", and I hope to finish the "Full House" quilt before the end of the month. Lots of cutting and sewing left, but hopefully I'll make it before the end of the month!!! It's a cute quilt that will look great as a wallhanging. That one will also get to decorate my living room, since there are no quilts to be seen in that area of my house :o)

I'm attending OPAM this year, too. I like the little "kick in da' butt" it gives me, to at least try to finish one project a month.

No UFO's done yet...

...but I have been sewing these days... on a new secret quilt... for ME :o)
I've enjoyed A LOT of needleturn applique (my favorite method), so now it's machine piecing all the way 'till it's finished! I can't wait to show you!!
Cannot show you yet (it wouldn't be a secret then, would it?)... but between the cutting the rest of the pieces for the secret quilt, I've got two house blocks done and a few more pieces for a few others.
These blocks will be joined into rows for the "Full House" quilt, which is the first quilt in the "Another year of Schnibbles" sew-along. I'm using my japanese fabrics, and I hope this will be a nice quilt. I will make it a wallhanging and decorate my living room with it.

I hope to show some more progress soon :o)

My (long) list of UFO's

I thought I should make a list of all (most of) my UFO's, since Sølvi did write about her UFO's over at her blog, and challenged us other bloggers to do the same. Not such a bad idea I think :o) Maybe it's easier to make some goals along the way :o)
I have UFO's I started sooo long ago, and many of them really should be finished in a day or or so...
Well, here's my list:

UFO #1
The purse I started when I attended Yoko Saito's class. Only one side almost finished, so some more work needs to be done here :o)

UFO #2
A great scrap quilt I'm making with Bonnie Hunter's pattern. Most of the blocks are pieced, and the rest is already cut.

UFO #3
A baby quilt I started making from my own head after seeing something similar at a photo on facebook. Made by using a precut jellyroll.

UFO #4
Gail Pan's free BOM "A Christmas wish". All blocks are ready for piecing.

UFO #5
Blocks made from a pattern I don't remember... But got enough blocks to make a quilt, and lots of cut pieces to make more blocks...

UFO #6
My 9 Dear Jane blocks pieced into a wallhanging/table runner. Almost finished with the hand quilting.

This is one of the oldest UFO's in my bins. I did start machine quilt a little bit, but I think I'll pick it up and finish it on my longarm machine .

Most of the pieces are precut, just needs to be pieced into blocks.

Needs some more cutting, and making the rest of the blocks.

Got all the blocks done, and started joining them into rows. Got to join the rows, and add the borders before I can start quilting.

"My Garden BOM". Only a few of the stitcheries are finished. Will enjoy working on this between all the others ;o)

"Kitchen Sink". Another quilt made from Kim Brackett's "ScrapBasket surprises". Need the two borders. Got to go shopping :o)

"Heart of the home backpack". A pattern by Gail pan. Need to make the back and lining.

I did start quilt this one, but I was not satisfied with it. I will undo it, and quilt it on my longarm machine.

My japanese wallhanging. Needs a lot of hand quilting before I can call it a finish :o)

A baby quilt made with reproduction fabrics. Need to make more blocks, and figure out how to join them.

My Irish chain quilt. The top is almost finsihed, but I couldn't find the other photo. Need to make the quilt a bit wider, and then quilt it.

An other Schnibble quilt. Need to add the borders, and then quilt it.

Schnibble quilt that only need to be quilted.

These are not all my UFO's, but I'll try to finish most of these during 2012.
I know I can finish most of them, since some only needs a few hours of work. I will try to at least finish the ones that needs borders and quilting.

One more block

It was so hard to get up this morning and go work. Been sleeping in every morning during the Holidays, and we did stay up (too) long every night. But after a little power nap I felt like doing some more cutting and piecing. Finished one more block for the quilt I'm working on. Been digging into my scrap bin to use as much scraps I can. You see, the fabrics I have in my bin is the ones I like the most. Got to use as many as I can :o)

I guess I could have finished more if I worked harder, but no rush in my sewing room these days. I'm just not able to do some speed piecing yet, but I'll get there when the batteries are well charged again :o)

I decided to join "Another year of Schnibbles" this year. I'm looking forward to that :o)

Happy New Year!

It's nice to start a new year whith a new project, I think. I've been doing some cutting and sewing today. I started on a new project from a book that arrived during the Holidays. It's a quilt called "Pie in the sky" from Kim Diehl's new book "Simple graces". I just love this quilt. Scrappy, and I love that!
I thought I would make it in reproduction fabrics, but found out I don't have too many different shades of colors in my stash. I started pulling out scraps of japanese fabrics instead, so this will be a stashbuster in the end :o)

Only one block is done so far:

I'm working slow today, since I'm trying to do some cleaning in my sewing room too. And I'm also knitting in between, so a little bit of this and a little bit of that... you know...

Tomorrow it's back to work again, and I'm looking forward to get back to the normal routines again. The kids have been turning the hours around a bit too, so I think two weeks off school is really enough... Back in business for us all tomorrow.

Looking back

~And the last OPAM 2011 report~

It's almost weird to think about that this year is almost history. Only one day left of 2011!!!
I just can't believe how fast time flies!
I'ts been a year with ups and downs, fun and joy. I haven't been sewing as much this year like I've used to. But I guess when your health is the boss of what's going on in your life, I will have to say I'm thankful for every hour I've been able to be creative. It's my therapy, and most of all.... passion in life :o)

I thought I should make a collage with a photo of every finished projects this year. I've made 17 finishes, and I'm satisfied with that :o) Some of them small, and some pretty large ones.

Looking at the photos, I realize a few of them are actually still in my house! I'm used to give away almost everything I make, but I've been making projects for myself and my own family this year :o)

I have to say I'm looking forward to a "fresh start" in 2012, and I look forward to start new projects and finish some of the ones I've already started. I've got some UFO's laying around still ;o)

I'm looking forward to have a lovely dinner with my family tomorrow, at New Years Eve. I'm making turkey for us all, and that's my favorite :o) Yummy!!!

Christmas gifts and something new

Hope you all had some nice and cozy days with family and friends, and that the Holidays did bring joy and also some nice surprises :o)
I've had a great Christmas evening with my family, and we had a lovely dinner with desserts and lots of nice presents for both the kids and us grown ups.

I made only two of the Christmas presents this year. One quilt for my parents, and one for my Hubby's parents.
The first one is a quilt I made starting in December, and finished the last stitches just the day before Christmas Eve. It's made from a pattern designed by Anni Downs, from the book "Some kind of wonderful", and the quilt is called "Snuggle quilt".
It's quilted on my longarm machine with a pantograph pattern called "Daisies Galore".

The next one is a quilt I started piecing in june 2008.
It's called "My blue heaven" and a design by Bonnie Hunter, I found the pattern over on her web page.
I finally got to quilt this large quilt when I got my longarm machine, and it's quilted with a pantograph pattern called "Quirky".

Today we did celebrate my mom's birthday. We where supposed to go to my parents place for dinner, but the storm last night cut the power to their house so we made dinner at our place instead. We had a lovely meal, and coffeè with desserts after. I've had lots of quality time with my family during the Holidays, and that's what Christmas is about :o)

The day before Christmas, an envelope with a pattern I waited for, arrived. It's a table runner with snowmen. I just adore snowmen, they are sooo cute! This is a pattern I ordered from Kathrine's quiltestue a while ago, but since she was sold out I had to wait till she got it back in stock again. I traced the motif on to cotton fabric today before the dinner party started, and I am now ready to start stitching. I guess it woun't be finished until next winter, but that's fine by me :o)

Aren't these just super cute? It's been a while since I made a pattern with snowmen, and I will enjoy every stitch :o)

The new year is only days away, and I've already made plans for what to finish and what to start working on the next months. I've got some exciting events next year, and I can't hardly wait!
I'll write more about that in a later post. Got to check up on those bed bugs now, off to work tomorrow.

A little sneak peek

I've finished quilting a quilt today, a Christmas present for someone close ;o) Since I'm not able to show you the whole quilt yet, I thought I should give you a little sneak peek anyway :o)

The quilt is quilted with these cute daisies and loops all over. (And yes, you can see where I had to rip out a seam that was misplaced ;o)
Now I'll be working on the binding, so I guess I'll be enjoying some hand sewing this evening.

Trying not to think about everything that should have been done for Christmas. I have never been so unprepared for the Holidays before, but there's nothing I can do about it other than doing the best I can.
I haven't got to send any Christmas cards, but I will send greetings on facebook to the ones I keep in contact with, so I figured that will have to do.

A visit and some quilting

On Monday this week, I had a great visit of Merete and Matt. Merete is the dealer of Innova longarm quilting machines here in Norway, and Matt is working as a technician at ABM International, the company that is the supplier of Innova longarm quilting machines.
Matt was checking that the machine was working well, and set up right. Thanks to Hubby who helped me set it up, it was not much Matt had to adjust :o)

I'm so happy about the great service from Merete too, and I'm so thankful for having the opportunity to ask her about how to do things on the machine.

Last week I decided to be tough enough to load up the "Laila's garden" on "Miss Monster", and since Merete gave me some advice the last time she was here about what to quilt on a quilt like this, I just figured I should give it a try. I've been playing around on test-pieces of fabric and thought it was about time I tried to quilt on a 'real quilt'.
I had to rip out many seams in the beginning, but I learned how to use the machine for this custom quilting, every step on the way down the quilt. This is how it looked like when I was finished:

I think I will do some more quilting on the purple inner border, but have to figure out what I want in there first. It's the very first quilt I've quilted like this, so it's not perfect! But it's a start, and I think it was so fun to do! I know what I have to do different next time, and will definitely make another top with applique for custom quilting. It's so fun!

I've been practicing the pantograph patterns on several quilts now, and feel a bit comfortable with these. That means I don't use that much time to finish a quilt like I did in the beginning. I'm hoping to finish some more care quilts with these patterns,too, when I'm done with the things I need to do before Christmas.

I'm trying not to be stressed about all the things that needs to be done or should have been done, I already know I'm not able to bake a lot, clean every spot in my house and so on either way. I plan to do what I can, and I plan to enjoy the days before AND during the Holidays. I think my kids and my Hubby is more happy about having me around smiling than sad and exhausted because I stress about every thing I should have done. It's not worth it, at all...

I was supposed to go on our local quilt guild's meeting tonight, but had to stay home and rest instead. Hope the rest of the ladies have a nice time with gingerbread and gløgg (mulled wine), and I also hope to see some photos from the projects in "show and tell" later :o)

A productive weekend

This weekend I finished the quilt for my DS1. I started working on the "Comfort quilt" right away when the issue #3 of Vignette by Leanne Beasley where released back in July. I have been working on it now and then, and since I pieced all the blocks a while ago it didn't take much time to join the blocks into rows, and the rows into a top. I loaded the quilt top on the longarm machine and finished the quilting on Saturday. DS1 told me a while ago which pantograph pattern he wanted me to use, and also which thread he liked the best. Finished the binding late last night, and I was so happy to see how it turned out!
I used wool batting for this, and it's so light! I will definitely use wool batting in quilts later too.

I just couldn't resist taking some photos of the quilt outside in the snow today. It started snowing late last night, and it looked like a Christmas card outside when we woke up this morning :o) I have to admit I like the snow ;o)

I cut most of the pieces for the "Mill Girls" quilt when I joined the quiltalong for this quilt.

I haven't made any blog posts for a while, so I haven't got to tell about the progress on it. I finished the blocks and did piece them into rows last weekend. Need to cut the large pieces to join the rows, and will be working on the hour glass blocks for the border.

When I was at Quiltegården a month ago, I bought the latest pattern from AnnAKa, and I've been working a little bit on one of the stitcheries the last week. Slow progress since a bug with fever decided to stay for some days.

So happy to feel better, and looking forward to get back at work tomorrow.

Still here...

I'm still here, just haven't had the energy to make any blog posts in a while.

A while ago, about three weeks, Merete came to visit me to see how "Miss Monster" is working. She is such a talented longarm quilter, and I'm so thankful for the things she teaches me. She always gives me an advice whenever I need one, and I just can't wait to try the different things I've learned. Time haven't been on my side lately, but I'll get there :o)

After spending some hours at my place, we headed downtown to Quiltegården for a cup of coffee and a chat with the other ladies that where there this evening. Merete had several quilts she had quilted, and you should have seen the gorgeous quilts that all where ready for binding! I didn't take any photos of them, since I guessed the owners would love to show them on their own blogs ;o)

We had a great time knitting, sewing, chatting and drinking coffee. And of course! We had the pleasure of eating the best chocolate cake I've EVER tasted!!! I will for sure ask for the recipe when I meet the lady that baked the yummy stuff!!!
I also met two ladies I haven't seen in a while, and that was so nice to see them again!

We've had some gorgeous experiences when it comes to sunsets this month. Several days in a row we've been able to look at some really great ones. It's hard to capture with a ordinary camera, but you get the idea, right?

I've been making some progress on my "Mill Girls" quilt, but haven't taken any photos. Will do when I have finished the rows. I have finished all the blocks, 20 that is, and look forward to finish this quilt. I really love how it looks already.

A fever knocked me out late last night and have been keeping me company today, so I wasn't able to go to work, and not much going on in my sewing room either. Hopefully it's better tomorrow, so I'll be able to get back to work, and some sewing in the evening.

I'm hoping to get started on a couple of Christmas gifts soon, and I'm trying to figure out what to make. I'm a little late, but I know I will at least get some finished by Christmas as long as I can decide what to make.

Two finished quilts in a week

I am so satisfied with two finished quilts in a week. I would never finish the quilting on these two quilts so fast if I had to quilt them on my domestic sewing machine. I just LOVE the longarm machine, and look forward to finish all my tops in a few months.

The first photo is a quilt I made for the charity project. I finished the top a while ago, and I'm so glad to be able to deliver the quilt at my local quilt guild meeting next week. I used a pantograph pattern, and I'm pretty satisfied with the result.

The next quilt is the one I worked on this summer. I used the Bliss line from Moda, and I just love these colors, even if I'm a big fan of the japanese fabrics. This one is also quilted using a pantograph pattern. The loops is not at all perfect, but at least I got a lot of practice. Finished is better than perfect, right?

I've been working on the longarm machine just a little bit this weekend, but I'm hoping to practice some more freemotion quilting as I move on.

Progress on "Mill Girls"

Hubby and the two youngest spent the weekend at my in-law's, and I've enjoyed being able to spend a lot of time in my sewing room. It's nice to be "home alone" now and then, and be able to do a lot of stuff without thinking about meals at the right hour, housework and so on... Just charging the batteries and do whatever I like to. But it was sooo good to have them back tonight. I don't need more than a weekend "off".

I finished the block #8 for the "Mill Girls" quilt before I headed to bed late last night. I like the result, and hope to finish the 20 blocks soon.

I made one mistake though... can you see it? I guess I was staying up too late last night ;o) I'll correct the mistake when I continue working on the rest of the blocks, but I will have a little break a few days. Need to practice some longarm quilting, and I hope to do some progress on my oldest son's quilt next week and finish the quilting on more charity quilts.
We're not supposed to do a fast progress on the "Mill Girls" quilt, so I'll put the blocks away for a few days without feeling guilty.

Haven't been sewing at all today, but I've done some housework and laundry beside doing a little knitting. I'm making a shawl using a free pattern by DROPS. I haven't taken any photo of it, but you can find the free pattern here:

Two of the blocks for the Mill Girls quilt are finished

Like I told you in my previous post, I'm attending a quilt-along for the gorgeous "Mill Girls" quilt on a Yahoo group called SBS and other Elm Creek quilts. Today is the first day of the quilt-along. I'm so excited to work on this beautiful quilt, and I do look forward to get to see all the different quilts the ladies will be making. Yesterday I got to cut some more fabrics, and I also got to play with some of the hourglass blocks, and pieced some of them. Today I finished a nice little pile of them, and I think they look pretty good :o) A lot more to finish, but I'm looking forward to get a lot of sewing done this weekend.

Finished two of the blocks, and I like the way the fabrics looks together. I just love these japanese fabrics! And they work so well with a lot of other fabrics too. I'm very pleased to do some stashbusting, a lot of these fabrics where bought long ago and some recently :o)

I'm looking forward to make them all, it's 20 blocks we need for this quilt, and get to quilt it on the longarm machine.

Did my first attempt on a tutorial

I'm attending a quilt along for the gorgeous "Mill Girls" quilt on a Yahoo group called SBS and other Elm Creek quilts. It's a quilt from Jennifer Chiaverini's "More Elm Creek Quilts" pattern book.

I think the sign up is still open, but if you have questions about it you can check up on Anne Ida's blog or ask to join the group on Yahoo.

These are the fabrics I'll use in my quilt. I think I will add some brown fabrics too, but well see.

Since the "Mill Girls" quilt include a lot of hourglass blocks, I thought I should make a tutorial about how to make these without any clean cutting after they are pieced. Hope you'll like it and find it helpful :o)

Today I got a package in my mailbox. The coffee jar and a bumper sticker I ordered, arrived :o) I just had to put the bumper sticker on my longarm machine, I think it belong there ;o)

It's getting late, so I'll jump to bed pretty soon. Tomorrow I'll cut some more fabrics for the "Mill Girls" quilt, and maybe make a block so I can see how it will turn out with the fabrics I chose.

A perfect Sunday

Mr. Winter came knocking on the door yesterday. It's really getting colder, and the temperatures did crawl just below 0 late last night. Today it's changing from rain to snow, and a chilly wind too. I'm so glad I can spend the day indoors. "Miss Monster" and I are dancing with thread today, and I'm having so much fun! A perfect Sunday :o)
I got to finish the quilting on a charity quilt last night, and today I finished charity quilt #2. I'm trying to quilt using a pantograph pattern called scallop grass. Not easy, but as I go I can see I'm making progress. That makes me really happy!

I've got more charity quilts to finish, and I think I'll use the same pattern since I'm slowly getting the hang of it.

I'm having Merete's advice on my mind all the time, PPP (Practice, Practice, Practice). Hope it will result in some pretty quilting in a while :o)

Practice makes perfect...

I'm still trying to make friends with "Miss Monster". I'm trying to figure out things as I go. I'm not going to use the patterns I've been trying to make on real quilts yet, but I really hope to work out something that I manage well in a while.

This is the last pattern I tried. It's not at all perfect, but I'm getting there one step at a time. This is like learning to ride a bicycle for the first time, and everyone knows how that goes the first lap :o)

I'm thinking that it will be fun to use this pattern i a quilt soon, I really like it, so with some adjustments and more practice it will look ok.

One more charity quilt

Wow! I'm posting two days in a row! Not weeks between, like I've been doing for a long time :o)

I got to quilt one more of the charity quilts today. It's similar to the one I finished yesterday, and I quilted loops on this one too. Not so advanced, but since I'm a newbie with this longarm quilting thing, I'm happy to get them looking ok :o)

Hope to get to practice more, and learn some new patterns I can use, and manage. It's fun, but also difficult to get it like I want it. Practice makes perfect, right? Hope "Miss Monster" and me will be good friends :o)
Just hope my neck and shoulders like this quilting method better than the freemotion quilting on my Bernina.

Ever since I started quilting, I've been dreaming of a long arm quilting machine. I've tried to do free motion quilting on my Bernina, but it's no good for my neck and shoulders. Small project works well, but all the larger quilts are stored away in bins, just waiting to get quilted...

Three weeks ago I ordered an Innova long arm quilting machine with an 8' frame.
Merete Ellingsen, who is a very talented proffesional long arm quilter and dealer for Innova, helped me out. She is the first person in Norway using this machine, and I can't wait to learn a trick or two from her :o)
I'm so thankful for her help, and I didn't need to wait long before it arrived either. It came early Friday morning to Trondheim! Several weeks faster than I thought! Whoohoo!!!
Hubby picked it up after work, so I shouldn't have to wait util Monday to get it delivered on my door.
A couple of hours after midnight, we had build the frame and attached all the pieces that came in bags and boxes, and placed the machine on top of the frame :o)

It was quite easy to follow the manual to build this frame, all the bags where labeled, so it was easy to use the right parts at the right places :o)

Isn't she gorgeous?

I call her "Miss Monster", and she is SEW HOT!
I got to practice for the first time earlier today, and I LOVE this machine already :o)
After a few hours of practice, I loaded a quilt top on to the frame, and I think I used a couple of hours quilting it, instead of using many, many hours basting the quilt on the floor using about hundred pins or so...

This is a charity quilt made by an other lady in my local quilt guild, and I have one more I hope to finish tomorrow :o)

I hope to spend a lot of time with her, and I just cannot wait to finish up all the quilts I have almost finished!

I finished the main part of the "secret quilt" last weekend, but I cannot show you yet, because I have to wait for fabrics for the borders. But I can assure you, IT IS GORGEOUS! I'm so excited to show you!

Earlier this week I finally got to finish some more blocks on the "Comfort quilt" I've been working on this Summer. I've finished four big blocks, and almost every small block are done too. Can't wait to get this one quilted with "Miss Monster" :o)

I'm still here!

I've been totally neglecting my blog (again) for a while. I haven't felt like doing much sewing since I've been bothered by a nasty cold the last two weeks, and it's been stealing all my energy. I think every second person I know, have had this long lasting cold, so I guess it's a typical Fall-thing.

The other day I got to put the binding on a table runner I made before Christmas last year. Since I didn't get to finish it back then, I put it in one of my UFO-bins. It's nice to dig out a UFO that don't need much work before it's totally finished :o)
I finished sewing the binding by hand last night, and it's all wrapped up ready to be given as a present to someone in my family later today, as a wedding present :o)
I've made several table runners like this, and I have to admit it's one of my favorite patterns.

I'm so happy to tell you that my mom finally fell in love with patchwork, and she has made some lovely blocks from a pattern called "Britt-Lisa's blomsterkurver" made by AnnAKa.
She is almost finished with a pillow (needs quilting) and the stitcheries for a table runner. Looks great, right?

I think it's so fun that she is into patchwork, too. I think she's addicted already :o)

It's a beautiful Autumn day today, the sun really makes the Autumn colors sparkle. I wish I was feeling better, so I could do a little photo-walk today, but I guess I have to take it easy a couple of days more. Running on low batteries, would make it a very short trip anyway.
I will try to do a little progress on the secret quilt I'm working on instead. Hand sewing is a nice and easy thing to enjoy on a day like this :o)

Some knitting for tiny babies

There has been not much sewing going on here for a while, since the migraines decided to stay for several days this time. But since I'm feeling better, I hope to enjoy some hours in my sewing room the next days. I've been knitting a little bit though. I'm just not made for sitting with my hands in my lap, even if the headaches are bothering me.
So many of my quilter friends are attending something called Amandaprosjektet. It's a project everyone in Norway can attend by knitting tiny mittens, socks, hats and blankets for premature infants. Since I am a knitter too, I wanted to attend this project. I've finished a little hat, a pair of mittens and I'm working on a baby blanket.

My twins where born three weeks before they where supposed to be born, but since they both where around 3 kilos, they didn't need much special care like many too early born babies. I remember how small they where, and that most of the clothes I had bought for them where too big for a long time. It's a nice thing to be able to make a little difference for those who aren't so lucky like us.
My mom are knitting for the project too, and I'm looking forward to deliver the things we're making in a little while.
I've got some of my friends to start too, so there will be some more knitting during the Autumn and winter that comes along soon :o)

I'm lucky to have a handyman in "da house" :o) I've seen a lot of shelfs I like here and there on the internet. Yesterday Hubby started making me one. He finished it today, and came home with this:

He started to paint it this evening, and it's looking so great! Just a couple of strokes more of white paint, and he can add the mirror on the back and get it up on the wall.

There will be added some pegs on the bottom of it when it's finished. I'm thrilled! It looks just like I wanted it to be! Woowhoo! Just trying to figure out what's going to be his next project ;o)

Finally a finish!

I finally finished my drawstring bag today! I'm doing the Happydance now :o) Been sooo long since my last finish, so it was about time! Now the ladies attending my class can see how it looks like :o)

It's not a small drawstring bag, the height is 36cm and width 31cm. Perfect to bring some stitchery or knitting to go :o)

I'm off to keep working on the "Secret project". I'm looking forward to show you that one :o)

My new project

In October, my local quilt guild is having a weekend with several different classes. I was asked to teach one of them, and if I could make a project about needleturn appliquè. I've been thinking about this project for a long time, and after throwing away my first try, I ended up with this:

It's the needleturn appliquè block I'm going to use in a little bag. A pompadour, like we call it over here. I will have to finish the leaves and the middle of the flowers before I finish the rest of the bag, and quilt it. It's small and pretty simple. Just big enough to get finished in a weekend.
What do you think?

Just a couple of ladies have signed up for my class util today, but I hope there will be some more now when they can see the project we're making. I will work on it and get it finished this weekend, so the ladies in my local quilt guild will be able to see the finished project.

I've missed Blogland!

I haven't been making blog posts as often as I wanted to, and I haven't been able to follow all the lovely blogs I love reading, so often these days. But I guess I'm not the only one, busy with other things... There has been a little bit sewing though. I've finished the block #1 of the "My garden" BOM by Lynette Anderson. I will finish the appliquè on all the blocks when I've finished them all, and decided which fabrics to use. I love the colors of the threads, and I have so many gorgeous japanese fabrics I want to use :o)

One of the reasons I haven't been around much here in Blogland is that I've been doing some rearrangements in my home. I've been doing a bit of painting, and I'm far away from finished!

I'm painting my dining chairs and table white. They used to be black! I love the way they turned out! Not finished, needs a lot more paint before I'm satisfied.

I've also painted the walls in my living room, too. But cannot make up my mind... I hope to get "the right color" and finish it soon.

We've also made some changes outside on the back of our home. Hubby is working mostly with help from my dad, my mom and our boys. I think it will look great when we're finished :o)

I'm looking forward to plant some trees and plants when he is done :o)

It's not hard to see the Autumn is near. I like Autumn, with the gorgeous colors it brings. I'm trying to keep my Summer flowers alive, but I guess they've seen better days than this. It's been pouring down the last couple of days, and it's getting colder. Hope the rain will stop, and to be able to get out for a walk with my camera again soon.

Speaking of taking photos.

I bought this Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 a little while ago. I wanted to get a camera to have in my purse, and the DSLR (Nikon D3000) is way to big to bring with me everywhere!

This camera takes great photos, and if you are looking for one which captures great pics without using a DSLR, this is the one I would recomend!!! It has the coolest auto capture, so if you're not so happy about making all the settings yourself, you just use the intelligent auto setting (IA). It's great to do that sometimes, instead of doing all the thinking yourself ;o)

I'm so satisfied with the photos taken indoors when it's getting dark. Even with no flash, this camera captures good pics!

I'm not an expert, but just telling you about my own experiences ;o)

Hope to get some sewing done during this week, and hope to stay a lot more here in Blogland from now on ;o)

Back in Blogland again

I'm finally back in Blogland. It's back to work on Monday again, after having three weeks off work. I feel like the three weeks of summer holidays went by so fast!
I got to so some sewing done, but not at all as much as I planned to. I have finished a lot of sewing on the "Comfort quilt". Just a few blocks needs to be cut and pieced. It's looking good so far :o)

I went to Denmark with my family, together with my brother's family. We rented a house in a place called Odsherred, and we had a great time. Since my kids are getting young men busy with their own stuff every day, it was so good to spend some family quality time with them. We went to see different places, and also enjoyed family dinners (bbq),playing games. We spent a lot more time driving than planned, but we had a great time after all :o)

Our furball, Fabian, had to spend the week we where away at a shelter for cats. It's the same place we adopted him from when he was three months old. The poor thing had not been comfortable, and he must have missed us terribly. Not eating much during the time he was there, and not at all interested in the people who worked there.
I've never seen him so happy as when he came home. He was constantly following us around the first two days, must have been so afraid of being left alone. He even followed us into the bathroom. He seems to gain some weight again, and he is more calm now. I will never leave him like that again, so next time we're going on a vacation we will have someone he knows to look after him, poor thing. I'm just glad he's a happy cat again!

We haven't had any great weather at all this summer. Mostly rain and forecast. I've tried to take some summer photos, and since I bought a new lens for my camera, I had to take some walks despite the weather. As long as it's not raining, it's fun to walk around looking for things to capture in a photo.

When I went for a walk the other day, I didn't see only flowers. I found a bunch of four and five leaf clovers too. I've always looking along the roadside when I walk, looking for these.
Will they bring me any luck? Who knows, but I sure hope so :o)

Last Friday, when we where heading home from Denmark, we got a call from my mom about the bomb in Oslo. We had to drive by Oslo to get home, and she was worried we had to drive through Oslo on our way back to Trondheim. We got to turn on the radio to listen to the news when we got to the boarder of Norway. We heard about the shooting at Utøya outside Oslo, and it was all just so sad.

It's been a week since the terrible day, and all of the Norwegian people are still in shock and really sad about the terrible things that happened. I have to admit it's almost too much to take in.

I'm thankful that the people in Norway stay together even more after such a bad incident.

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families.

A new quilt

I got to buy the issue #3 of Vignette when I visited Quiltegården on Monday. I've seen the gorgeous "Comfort quilt" a while ago at Leanne's blog, and just been waiting for this pattern to hit the quilt shop! It's made in my favorite fabrics, which I've got at a lot of! Of course I had to start making this as fast as I came home!

Got to cut a lot of fabrics for this quilt, and also got to finish some blocks for it already :o) I will make this quilt for my DS1. I really hope he'll like it as much as I do!

Been sewing for some years now, but never finished a quilt for my boys yet, and I think it's about time I make them a quilt each! It's a bit hard to find fabrics and also patterns that is really "boyish", but the "Comfort quilt" is just perfect! And it's pretty fast to make to, so I might make my three boys a quilt each with this pattern. Got so many gorgeous japanese fabrics to use in a quilt like this, and I think this will be fun and fast to make.

Maybe I'll end up making one for my dear Hubby too :o)

It's great to get to do some sewing now when I have three weeks off work. The weather is not like it should be, so much rain and low temperatures. Think we've had just a couple of days that where really nice the last month or so. I really hope we'll have a lot of sun and warmer weather during the summer holidays. The kids gets a bit bored when they're not able to be outside riding their skateboard, and we usually go to a lake near by to go swimming and sun bathing, it's really not like summer is supposed to be. No fishing trips when it's raining and cold either. Hope it will change, so we'll have a great summer after all.

I've been sewing some more on my "My Garden" quilt, and hope to finish up some more blocks for it soon. It's a beautiful quilt, and I hope to finish some more during the next couple of weeks. I've got so many unfinished projects, but this will be one of the ones I'll work on. It just works best for me to do what I like, when I like. But that's me, you know :o) Enough of "have to's" during the days, so it's nice to make progress with my sewing projects in the way that works for me. They will all be finsihed, when I'm ready for it ;o) No pressure, and I like that.

Slow progress

There has been a slow progress on my projects lately, but now and then I've spent some time in my sewing room working on a couple of them. I've made some blocks for my "Picnic" quilt, using only reproduction fabrics. I've made 40 blocks so far, so still 40 more to make.
The pattern for this quilt is from Kim Brackett's new book "Scrap-basket Sensations".

It's been a while since I finished all the blocks for this gorgeous quilt, the "Short story" from the book Schnibbles times two, and I've started to join the rows. They are all ready to be joined together, so not much work left before the borders ;o)

I got a nice little packet in the mail yesterday, Lynette Anderson's BOM "My Garden" arrived!!! Typical me, I didn't get it while my local quilt shop had this for sale... Looking at all the lovely blocks around on my friend's blogs, I just had to ask around to see if anyone knew where to get it! May Britt (Abyquilt) helped me out, and gave me a hint where to get it, she did find out that Lynette Anderson had a few available over at her webshop! Woohoo!!! The thread used in this BOM was already in my stash, so yesterday I got to trace the nine stitchery patterns and got to start stitching :o) Block #1 is in the making! Me like!!

I will enjoy stitching this between making progress on the other projects during my Summer Holidays, and look forward to add the fabric strips to complete the blocks. The colors in this BOM is just the perfect colors, and I will get to use lots of my japanese fabrics/scraps in this quilt :o)

The weather here in Trondheim is not too nice today. Forecast and a little rain. A perfect sewing weather, so it's fine by me for a while, but hoping that it will be some sunny days during this summer too. It's been chilly and too much rain until now...

Progress

I forgot to show the finished quilt top, made with the Bliss line. I thought I would make one big quilt, but made up my mind and made two smaller ones. I've only finished one of them, and the other is almost finished. Just need to add the sashing between the rows. I found the backing piece I need to get it quilted yesterday, so I will finish this in a few days I hope.

I've also made some progress on my stitchery project. The table runner is looking great so far :o)

Got to take a break from all the hand sewing, since it's not so good for my neck and shoulders.

A couple of weeks ago we went to take a walk in the forrest, to a little lake we use to go to, with my brother and his family. We also brought our fishing gear, but we didn't catch any fish this time. But we had a cozy time, eating hot dogs and baked potatoes. Mum and dad joined us later, and their dog Luna was happy to join us too :o)

I love these trips with my family, and I hope we'll have many cozy times like this during this summer.

Since we've been having so much rain and low temperatures till now, I hope the rest of the summer will be much better. We really deserve some more sun, I think :o)

Some new stuff

Went to Quiltegården yesterday, and some new stuff came home with me. I didn't find the backing fabric I was looking for, so I ended up with some other fabrics instead. The shirtings will be added to my repro's, and I'm planning to use them in a quilt from the "Scrap Basket Sensations" book. Need to figure out which quilt to play with first...

I've been wanting to make the gorgeous table runner from Hatched and Patched, "My angels garden" for a while now. It's just so cute!

I also bought the paper piece pack kit with templates for one of Sue Dayley's quilts, and will work on this between all of my other projects. Not sure if I will make a quilt as big as hers, but we'll see how many blocks I will end up with. Thought I should give the needles and glue a try to. The needles are long and thin, so I guess they'll be perfect for some needleturn applique too ;o)

I'm so happy that my sewing mojo is "back in business", and it feels great to do some creative stuff again :o)

A nice weekend

I've enjoyed some hours in my sewing room this weekend. Yesterday I digged out a care quilt (charity quilt) and got it basted, quilted and also put the binding on. Now it's only sewing the binding on to the back by hand left on this one. The top was donated by a lady in my quilt guild, and I've been having it stored away for quite some time now.

Was about time I got to finish it! Got a couple of more donated tops to finish up, but I have to do some work on my own quilts in between. I like to work this way. Do what I like, when I feel like... You can see the other care quilts donated at the blog called Tepper til St. Olav, and a picture of the whole quilt above will be added there when it's finished. All the quilts you see in this blog are donated to our local hospital, for children with long term diseases.

Today I worked on a scrap quilt I started back in April this year. I got to finish the sashing between two of the rows, an I hope to add the third row before I turn off the lights in my sewing room tonight.

It looks small on this photo, but it's huge! It's about 70" wide so far (left to right on the photo). I could add one more row, and it would be big enough as a quilt for a kid, but I think I will add the three more rows I've already pieced, and it will be aprox 70" x 102" (180cm x 260cm) finished. Big enough as a bed quilt :o)

We'll see, haven't made up my mind yet ;o)

"Butterfly dilly bag"

Yay! The "Butterfly dilly bag" is finished!

I used a purple fabric I got from the same friend that sent me the beautiful thread. A perfect match :o)

Since the pattern includes two different stitcheries, I placed one on each side of the bag.

I did one thing wrong tough... I didn't think twice before sewing and cutting to make the bottom corners, so the stitcheries ended up a bit further down on the sides than planned... But not too far down, phew...

This is a bit typical me when I'm not paying attention, but I've learned my lesson today!

So... this means I've got one more finish for OPAM this month, so now I've got two finished projects for May. I'm happy about that :o)

A little stitchery today

Started on a little stitchery today when the migraines that have been around, left today.

It's going to be on the front of a little bag called "Butterfly dilly bag". It's a pattern made by Gail Pan. So cute! I used the hand dyed thread from Cottage garden threads. I got this thread from a good friend, and so happy to finally find a project to use it in!

And you know me, I LOVE purple :o)

I hope to finish the bag during the weekend, and if the weather is going to be like the weather station says, it's going to be sewing-weather. Rain, rain and rain.

Me and Hubby went to my parents place today while the boys was meeting some of their friends. I took my parents dog Luna with me for a little walk, and since noone else uses the track we went I didn't need a leash for Luna.

No need to worry about meeting any moose with this "lady" walking along with me :o)

An old UFO came out of the bin today

I've been working on a quilt today, one I started in April 2009. I ripped up the seams I made back then, and rearranged the blocks. I made a quilt in blue and brown using the same pattern. You can see it here if you want to. This time I followed the pattern to make the blocks. I found the pattern over at Mary's blog. It's a double 4patch, a pattern that is easy, fun and quick.

This quilt is for my DS3, and I hope to finish the quilts for all of my three boys this year. One of them are almost finished, the blue and brown double 4patch. Just need a little more quilting on the border... Can't figure out why I haven't finished them yet.... Well, I'm at least on my way to :o)

A finished project!

It's been three weeks since my last post. I haven't been sewing during these three weeks at all, and it was so great to finally spend some time in my sewing room last nigt!

I got to finish the binding on the table runner I wrote about in my previous blog post.

I simply love purple, the lavender/dusty kind of purple. I've always loved this color, and I'm thrilled there are so many lovely fabrics to get in these colors! And here in Norway, the purple have been popular for about a year, and you can buy a lot of interiour stuff and clothes in this color now. Me like :o)

I hope to be able to work on my sewing projects for a while now, I've really missed my sewing room a lot!

You know, when "life just happends" and my neck doesn't work with me, I'll get slowed down. I guess we've all had, and will have, sort of "issues" to deal with now and then. Stuff that takes both time and a lot of energy to deal with. That's life, right?

Another table runner

I haven't been sewing at all during the Easter Holidays, but I got to enjoy some time with my family, and I've been knitting a little bit.

We've had some lovely days during the Holidays, and it was so nice to spend some time outside in the sun again! Spring is really showing off, and almost all of the snow are gone now. FINALLY!

Got time to cut some fabrics for a table runner I've had on my mind for a long time. I think it's about a year since I bought the fabrics for it!

You know I love purple, so purple it is :o) The top is finished, so now I will start basting and quilting.

This is table runner #4 from the same AnnAKa pattern. The first one I finished in March last year, and I love this pattern.

I'm having a day off work today, and between the usual "house-stuff" I'm enjoying some time in my sewing room. I digged out a couple of UFO's the other day, and I hope to make some progress on at least one of them before this week is coming to an end.

Been sewing this weekend

I got to spend a lot of time in my sewing room this weekend. The quilt I'm working on is almost finished, and I love these happy colors. I'm a big fan of "dusty" prints, but I love to make some quilts with brighter fabrics now and then. Reminds me of the Summer we are soon about to welcome :o) The "Bliss" line from Moda is just gorgous, and since I had so much fabric left after making the block for my Schnibble quilt some months ago, I figured I should make a Summer quilt. I got to see a beautiful quilt made by Merete a while ago, and started cutting fabrics after I got home from Quiltegården on Tuesday. I got to buy the white fabric for background that day, and I love how it's turning out!

Since I had to pick it up from the floor so I could clean up some of the threads and dust from the floor, I only got to take a photo while the rows are folded together tonight. I'm half way to a finished top, so I'll take a photo of the whole thing in a few days. This quilt are really a stashbuster :o)

I also started a couple of Easter projects like the hearts in my previous post. Just love these cuties :o)

I'm pretty tired and ready to jump to bed, so they have to wait till tomorrow, so I can finish them up.

Easter project

Having a day off work today, so I got to spend a few hours in my sewing room. The plan was to continue on the quilt I've been working on the last days, but figured I should make a little Easter project instead. The pattern is from a book I bought in 2004 (I usually mark my books with my name and year they are purchased).
I've been wanting to make this project for so long, and it was so fun to make!

A cute little Easter decoration :o) Can't figure out why I waited so long to make this!
I hope to make a couple of the other projects from the same book during the Easter holidays. It brings out the Spring feeling, working on projects like this :o)

It's nice to have the sewing mojo back again, and hope it will stay for a while again.

Some new projects

Not much sewing going on, but I started a couple of new knitting projects. I've been knitting since I was a little girl, and I've always been very fascinated by the traditonal knitted Selbuvotter/Selbu mittens and gloves.

The one called "Selbuvotten" is translated from a book called "Biography of a Knitting tradition" by Terri Shea, so the book is also written in English for those of you who are interested in knitting, and read only English.

When I'm not able to, or just don't feel like, doing any sewing projects, I ususally have a knitting project (or five) I work on. It's just as easy as stitcheries to keep in my purse :o)

Inspired by the gorgeous mittens I did see over at Mormors verden made with multicolored yarn, I just had to buy some new yarn and try this. These two pairs are both made from the same pattern, but the one with multicolored yarn are smaller, because the yarn is a bit thinner than the ones in black and white.

I have been knitting a lot of socks with similar patterns like these, and I'm not so good at knitting thumbs yet... You can see there is no thumbs on the two pairs, but I hope to get on with them this weekend. Been so long since I knitted mittens, so I forgot how to make the thumbs look neat ;o) I'll just have to give it a try :o)

The day before yesterday, Hubby bought me roses. He knows my favorite color is dusty purple, and he spoted these gorgeous roses and just had to buy them. It's a bit hard to get the real color right, even if I brought them outside and didn't use the flash on my camera, but I think it's pretty close:

The roses are in the same colors as my favorite table runner I have on my dinner table.

I have no clue what the name of the roses is, but if you do I really want to know :o)

It's looking more like Spring these days, as the snow is melting fast, and the temperatures are staying around 5 to 10 degrees depending on if the sun is shining or not. I'm looking forward to the beautiful season we have ahed, and hope to get to spend more time outside again. It's been a long winter, and it's so nice to have a lot more daylight again.

I have no special plans for this weekend, and I'm just going to catch up on a few things between doing some "have to's".

A small progress

Some weeks ago I bought the book "Miss Rosie's spice of life" by Carrie Nelson. I just fell in love with this beautiful scrap quilt called "Raise the roof" when I read the book. I started cutting fabrics for the quilt a while ago, and started making some of the blocks during the last week or so.
I had a day off work today, and thought I would finish a lot of blocs, but just got to make four...
But a small progress is still progress :o)

I wish I did cut many more different fabrics, feel like the blocks are too much alike, but I just plan to continue and see how it looks in the end. Maybe I'll make some new blocks if it doesn't look good enough.

Hope to continue making blocks during the rest of the week, but I have to go shopping first. I'm almost out of sewing thread, so I have to get more before I'm able to sew more. I have a lot of different thread, but not the light one. I like to use light sewing thread when I do the piecing, especially when I'm dealing with the light fabrics. Don't want it to show through.

I'm still here!

I've been taking a little blog break. Not because I wanted, but when "life just happends", and my health is not very cooperative, there is not much sewing going on.

The migraines and most of the neck pain are gone now, and it's feels so much better!

I know it's something I will have to deal with every now and then, but it's making me a bit sad when it "steals" so many hours and days of my time.

For those of you who doesn't know me, I'm having a neck injury because of a whiplash accident years ago. This makes me unable to work as much as I should, and of course it means I'm not able to sew as much I would like to. But to be honest, sewing is my own sort of therapy to keep my motivation up, and it feels so good to be able to do something creative. I have several friends who are in the same situation like me, and find joy and therapy in sewing or other crafts. Sometimes people doesn't understand how I am able to sew, but I can't just sit down with my hands in my lap, can I? I would go crazy if that should happen!

The other day I got to finish up a little project I've had in the making for sooo long. Just the zipper that needed to be attached, so it didn't take that long to finish it either. That means I've got a little finish for OPAM too this month :o)

It's a little toiletry purse from AnnAKa's pattern called "Stor og liten" (Big and small).

I haven't spent much time in my sewing room this month, but hopefully it will be some hours in there this weekend. I've got a few plans, so we'll see. I really hope my sewing mojo is coming back to me again soon. I hate to not have the energy or urge to sew. But that's life. I have to many projects in the making, so it's not easy to pick which one to work on, but I just have to make up my mind and just go ahead :o)

I WON!

I have been followong the blog tour and give aways that was about Kim Brackett's new book "Scrap-basket Sensations". Yesterday Brown Quilts announced the winner of the 10.th day of the blog tour. And I was the winner of the book! I had to read it three times to belive it! I'm sooo excited! This book was on top of my wish list, but since I'm working on two of the quilts from her earlier book, "Scap-basket Surprises", I decided to wait to order it till these two quilts where finished. But now I'll get my own autographed copy! Ain't that cool?

I digged out my "Kitchen Sink" from my WISP bin the other day, and I have to admit I got inspired to do so when reading about the new book.

Yesterday I finished piecing the last two rows on my "Kitchen Sink"!

I'm not sure what fabrics to use for borders yet, but hopefully I'll figure it out soon. Really wanna finish this top and get it ready for quilting.

I love how it turned out so far!

I made the quilt a bit larger than the original. I will use wool batting, and been thinking about hand quilting it. But then again, it might not be finished for such a long time if I do hand quilt it...

We'll see. Got some time to figure that out :o)

I'm going to clean up my sewing room today, it looks like a mess after spending time in there the last days. I love to clean up after every project. I get more motivated when I do so, and it gets pretty dusty when I've been cutting and sewing for some days.

Kitchen Sink update

I've been playing with the blocks for the "Kitchen Sink" quilt I started working on a while ago. I haven't been sewing so much for a long time, and it was so nice to work with this one again. I think this is one of my favorite scrap quilts ever, and I'm pretty satisfied with the result so far. Sort of what I imagined in the beginning :o) I've been looking for a brown fabric for the triangles for so long, and didn't find any I really liked. But I figured out I should give the blue one a try, and I don't regret that. I think it fits pretty well with the rest of the fabrics, and all of them are reproductions fabrics I've been collecting over the last year or so.

The photo is a bit dark, but I'll take a better one in daylight during the weekend ;o)

When I made the post on my blog about starting to make this quilt, I got an e-mail from Kari Veslum (no blog). She recognized the quilt I worked on when she read my blog post. She told me she had made this one also, and thought it was fun to find it on my blog too. She sent me a photo of her quilt, and it is gorgeous!

Don't you think Kari's quilt looks great?

I think it is fun to hear about others who did make, or are making the same quilts as I am. We can inspire eachother, and see the different variations in colorways others did choose. I know she gave this away as a Birthday present, and that she is making one for her self too. I really hope to see that one too :o)

I've had a day off work today, and just enjoyed some time in my sewing room and a few other things I haven't got the time to do for so long. I decided to have a day off the "have-to's" too. I think I really needed that. It feels so good to be doing something for me, without feeling guilty and selfish. I usually do feel selfish when I neglect housework and doing other stuff a mom have to do every day. It just "charge my batteries" sometimes :o) We all need to do that now and then.

The kids are having a week off school next week, the Winter Holidays, and I have a week off work too. I hope to do some sewing, and doing some cozy stuff with the kids. Maybe bake some cinnamonbuns or something, and do stuff we don't have time to do when the days are filled with school and work.

I'm looking forward to just enjoy some quality time with them :o)

Last weekend, I attented Anne-Pia Godske Rasmussen's class at Quiltegården.

Anne-Pia is a well known designer, and her last book "Flowerpower Patchwork" is a really great book, with lots of gorgeous patterns and projects. She told us how to do every project from the book, and she showed the projects step-by-step, so it was so easy to see what she talked about. Thank you, Anne-Pia, for a lovely and inspiring weekend!

I wanted to make the knitting bag from the book, and I bought some gorgeous fabrics to play with :o)

Anne-Pia's bag is on the left side of the photo, and mine on the right side. I didn't finish mine at the class, but finished it the day after.

My knitting bag is already stuffed with knitting pins and patterns that I've got stored in plastic bags till now. Think I'll make another one too, so I can have one to take with me too. I like to work on some easy projects when I'm taking knitting or sewing with me when I am on a visit or meeting, and the ones with more complicated patterns stay's home :o)

I took some photos on the first day of the class, but forgot to take some of the Anne-Pia's projects, and photos from the second day :o(

Thanks so much to Anne Mari and Liv Guri, who took care of our lunch, coffee and tea this weekend. They made us some yummy waffles, and Anne Mari made homemade bread for us too :o) We're pretty spoiled when we attend the weekend classes at Quiltegården ;o)

Earlier this month, I got the "Winter Blooms" back from Merete, who did the most gorgeous quilting on it. Finished the binding on it, and it's now on display at Quiltegården :o) Some close up's:

A new top is finished

In November last year, we where a group of ladies from our local quilt guild who met for a sew-along to work on charity quilts. I had cut a lot of pieces to make a quilt from a pattern I did see over at Mary's blog. One of the other ladies brought the same pattern, too! Her quilt was turning out so great too :o)

I managed to piece all the blocks that evening, but they've been in a box since then....

Some days ago I started to piece them together in rows, and yesterday I started working on the border. I wantet to make the border a little easier than in Mary's pattern, but I still wanted the bricks to be surrounded by the white fabrics... Some thinking later, I came up with this:

I'm pretty satisfied with the result, and I hope to get to quilt it soon, and binding it. Here is a close up on the fabrics:

These fabrics have been in my stash for so long, and I'm glad I found a project to use them in. They are all from the same fabric line except the white one, but I cannot remember the name of it...

I hope to sew some more later this weekend, but since a cold is heading my way, I will find some stitchery to work on, and make myself a big mug of Tea and stay under a blanket for the rest of this day :o)

The "Secret Quilt" is called Cottage Charm :o)

Today is the day I'm allowed to show you the secret project I have been working on the last month or so!!!!

Siw, owner of Quiltegården, asked me to make this quilt, and of course I couldn't resist saying "yes" :o) I started in the middle of December, and it was so exciting to see the quilt growing.

A lot of sewing on the machine, and appliquè by hand, it turned into this:

Then it had to take a trip to Merete, she was going to quilt it on her longarm quilting machine. She gave me a couple of sneak peeks along the way, and it looked gorgeous!

She turned it into this:

Awesome, right? She did such an amazing job, and you can see some more close up photo's over at Merete's blog :o)

The quilt is on display at Fr.Jørgensen's exhibition stand on the Gave & Interiørmessa (Spring Market) which opened early today and will be open during the weekend, so that's why we couldn't show you the quilt before ;o)

The quilt is promoting the new fabric line from RJR fabrics, and the pattern is a 6 month BOM with these fabrics. Quiltegården in Trondheim are going to have it in the shop, so give them a call, or an e-mail if you are interested :o)

I couldn't resist using the extra pieces I had left from the first table runner I made a week ago. I turned it into a similar table runner, and I gave it to my mom yesterday. The only thing different from the first one, is the quilting. This is only my second finish this year, but hope to finish some more projects next month:o)

A new table runner for me :o)

Yesterday I had my day off work, and I started making a table runner I've had in my mind for a while. My inspiration was a quilt one of my fellow members in my quilt guild made some time ago. I liked the simplicity of it, but yet it was so cute! Hers was hand quilted, but I quilted mine in the ditch using my sewing machine.
Fast and easy one. Just had to do something for myself for a change :o)

It's made from 3,5" squares (you'll need 21). Strips in white are 1,5" x 3,5" (you'll need 18), 1,5" x 27,5" (you'll nedd 4) and 1,5" x 13,5 " (you'll need 2). I pieced it in rows and pieced the rows together with two of the 1,5" x 27,5" strips, and then added the two left along each side. Then I added the two strips at the shortest ends.

Nice to have a table runner with some Spring feeling even if it's lots of snow outside, and it's still snowing a bit.
My two youngest boys have been sick with the flu bug for a week now, and today I'm not feeling too good. Just hope it's not the flu bug that got me, and that the coughing and headache will pass by quick! Don't have the time to be sick now. Too much to do!
I'm off to have a cup of hot tea and some rest, and hopefully I can get back to work tomorrow, and that I'll will get some sewing done this weekend.

Been sewing

I managed to finish the "Secret quilt" on Thursday, and it's off to quilting now!!! So excited to see it after it's quilted!!!. Merete Ellingsen are the one who will be doing the quilting. She is such a talented quilter, and I hope to make a quilt of my own to send her way soon :o)
Sorry I cannot show you photo's of it yet, but soon... ;0)

I've been only working on the "Secret quilt" for more than a month now, and it was a bit weird to find time to something totally new... Hard to pick one project to work on, there are too many to choose from... But I'm gonna stick to the plan about finishing something for every new project, so maybe the pile of UFO' will be a bit smaller this year. I really hope so!
I ended up cutting more fabric for the "Mocha Swirl" quilt I started working on together with Gail Pan, when we started a little sew-a-long on Facebook. She finished hers a while ago (PS! She is a speed-sewer!!!), and mine was not half way yet, but some more blocks where added today :o)
And more is in the making. This is some of the blocks so far:

I've used mostly from my Japaneese fabrics, but some are other fabrics. Some where scraps from fabrics I bought when I first started to make quilts, and some are fabrics I've bought not long ago. I love to do stashbustin, but there seems to be more stash when I'm done... At least a lot of 2,5" strips :o) This pattern is from the "Scrap Basket Surprises" book. It's a great book with lots of easy but awesome patterns. Will continue working on the "Kitchen Sink" when I'm done with this one, so I have some stuff going on... :o)

Happy New Year! Isn't it great to sort of reset, and start on scratch with all the plans and project that didn't happen last year? I've already made a lot of plans, and some of my New Year's resolutions includes getting some more of my UFO's and WISP's out their bins and boxes, and finish more projects than last year. I am going to update my list for every UFO/WISP so I can get an overview of them. I've got lists in several notebooks, and that is not working. So the list on my sidebar will be a long one one...

I am planning to finish a UFO/WISP for each new project I start with this year. Wanna join me on that? Maybe I'll make a blogbutton for this, if several of you wanna join me :o)

There will also be a sew-along on my blog soon. Cannot wait to give you the details, but I know you'll love it, so keep checking up on me ;o) It will be so fun!

During the Christmas Holidays I got to do some progress on the "Secret quilt" I'm working on. It's a gorgeous quilt, and I will give you a couple of sneek peeks when I've been working some more on it ;o)

I also started on a little chrochet project. It's going to be a small table runner for my cupboard when it's finished. Just loved the purple yarn I bought last week.

The last OPAM report this year

I have finished only one project in December. I can only show you a little bit of it, since it haven't been delivered to it's new owner yet ;o)

I have finished only 14 projects this year, I made 28 projects last year, so I hope next year will be a year with a lot of finishes.
I really hope Peg and Kris will continue OPAM next year, too. It's been fun to have joined it for the last two years, and sort of a "kick in tha butt" for me ;o)

A big thank you to Peg and Kris for doing all the hard work, I know they've been spending a lot of their time making this possible for us ladies.

I have been busy working on a quilt I have to finish before middle of January. I'm not allowed to show you a sneak peak yet ;o)

I've already made some plans for projects in 2011. New year, a fresh start.

Then the Holidays are here, and even if it might be stressful and busy to get prepared for it, I love Christmas. I keep telling myself I did my best this year too, even if I forgot to send several of the already written Christmas cards, didn't get to bake all the Christmas cookies like I use to do every year and I didn't get to make any hand made gifts this year either. But I think what really matters is that I can be with my loved ones and be grateful for the things I got to do. I have wished my friends either by e-mail or to their facebook profile, Merry Christmas, that's sort of an ok substitute for the cards I didn't get to send, right?
I think we sometimes ask too much from ourselves to do "all the right things" and forget to enjoy the small but important moments in our lives... am I wrong?

Woowhoo! The top is finished!

I'm soooo happy and pretty satisfied, I finished the top of the quilt I've been working on for Quiltegården lately! The "Winter blooms" by Gail Pan. Isn't it gorgeous? I love the colors and the design, and have really enjoyed working on this quilt! I'll deliver it to Siw at Quiltegården tomorrow, and off to quilting it goes :o) I look forward to see it quilted!
All of the fabrics I've used is from Quiltegården, so if you want to make this quilt in the same fabrics just go to their blog and find their e-mail or phone number to order it. The pattern is sold separately, too :o)

I am going to finish a few projects the next days, and also start on a new project. But more about that later ;o)

I've been making some progress on the "Winter Blooms" quilt. I was going to finish it this weekend, but that didn't happen... But the night is still young, so I will get some progress before I jump to bed. I think it looks great!

I went downtown to Quiltegården last Friday, and this is the treasures that just had to come home with me:Some gorgeous fabrics, more thread, and a Jelly roll I've already made plans for ;o)
I also get to meet one of the girls I met at Gail and Leanne's class in September 2009.
Berit has a blog too, so pop over to say "Hi" :o) It was so nice to meet her again! You should have seen the lovely Christmas stockings she had made!!! I hope she'll share them on her blog when she gets back home ;o)
We had a great time shopping at Quiltegården, and a cozy lunch afterwards. Sølvi joined us too, and I was so sad when I didn't get to spend more time with the girls. Hope it's not too long till next time :-)

The last time I was teaching my class at Quiltegården, I forgot a bag of my stuff. Among the stuff I left there (I'm a messy head, if you haven't figured that out already...), was the front piece of my version of Gail Pan's bag "Heart of the home backpack". I guess the ones of you who knows me, can see it's a bit typically me, purple and all ;-)
Actually, I started working on the stitchery long ago. I finished it in November 2009, so it's been a WISP for more than a year!
But you can get the idea how it's going to turn out now?

I am going to focus on the "Winter Blooms" quilt now, so I hope to get it finished in a couple of days. Then I will make a few Christmas presents I've got on my mind. Christmas is right around the corner, and not much time left to finish up some stuff...

I've been busy lately, but I've had so much fun!
Last week (Thursday) I finished my class at Quiltegården about how to use the 60 degree ruler to make the quilt with cubes. To teach classes is totaly new to me, but with such patient and nice students I had a great time :o) Thank you ladies, and thank you Siw for asking me to do this!

Got to finish another table runner on Monday. It's almost the same as the one in the previous blog post, but if you click on the image, you can see the ric rac's are a little bit different and the laces are in different silver too. Stars on the last one is made in white fabric with silver print. It doesn't show well on the photo, but... This photo shows them both:

Last Wednesday I attended a sew-in together with some other ladies. We met to work on some care quilts. We got a lot of sewing done, and we had a great time :o) Hope to do another sew-in again soon. Guess we'll see some more care quilts finished in a while ;o)

I've had a really great weekend, spending most of the time in my sewing room. Whoowhoo! And I've got a couple of finishes too!!!
I started to make a little toiletry purse on Friday, and it was finished before the evening was over :o) I found a tutorial on this one a while ago on Sissel's blog, and I just had to use my newest fabrics, the London cats. Sooo cute!

I made three similar tops last year, with purple and black fabrics, but never got to finish them. They where ment to become Advent table runners, but Christmas came and I just put them in one of my UFO/WISP bins. Got to quilt two of them this weekend, and made the appliquè and attached binding on to both of them. I finished sewing the binding by hand on one of them, and hope to finish the other one tomorrow. I've made this table runner several times now, I think I made three last year too, but I don't get bored of this pattern. I love these Advent colors, with some silver ric racs and laces :o)

I've been teaching a class at Quiltegården about some of the techniques I used in my Japaneese wallhanging, and last Thursday we had evening nr.2. I can assure you I was really speachless when the ladies had made such progress during the two weeks since the first class night. Some of them had put the pedal to the metal, and finished the top for the quilt, so I could teach them to make the stems on the outher border. Some of the ladies where working on their flower blocks, and they where all so gorgeous! So many different colors, but so beautiful every one of them! I really hope to get to see all of the quilts finished one day. Mine is not finished yet, I still have a lot of hand quilting to do. But I try to do a thread or three, now and then ;o)
With my messy mind I forgot my camera at home (AGAIN!!!), but I asked Hanne-Kristine to shoot some photos, and you can see LOTS of pictures from the class at her blog.

I didn't get to finish any projects for October OPAM, but I really hope to get some projects done for November. One project I'm pretty certain about finishing, is the new table runner I started working on last Friday. Had a day off work, and got to do a lot of sewing between housework and laundry. It's called "Santa's on his way" and it's designed by Lynette Anderson.

I bought the pattern at Quiltegården last Thursday, when I taught a class there. The class was about using the 60 degree ruler to make a quilt with tumbling blocks. You can see my quilt here.

I hope the ladies had a nice evening, I for sure did :o) I forgot to bring my camera, but I will try to remember it for evening nr.2. I'm looking forward to see their quilts coming together :o)

My local quilt guild's monthly meeting is on this Wednesday, and I hoped to finish my table runner till then. Cannot remember the last time I brought something finished to show at our show and tell! Hope my sewing mojo will be back for good soon, got a lot of projects I wanna finish. But when life happends, it's not something you can control... I guess ;o)
I can feel the "Christmas mood" is getting here, so maybe there will be some soft presents for someone this Christmas too. I sure hope so!

A small Schnibble

Haven't been much sewing lately, but I finished the small X-rated some days ago :o)
I used Moda's "Pure" fabrics.

My plan was to get it quilted this weekend, but since I've got a pretty troubled neck, I'm not able to do any sewing for some days. Boring....:o(
But I'm looking through books and magazines to get some inspiration. I'm not made for sitting with my hands in my lap for too long. Better than watching all the soape operas on TV ;o)

Some new blocks

I haven't been able to sew much the last two weeks, been knocked out by some ugly cold that's going around. But I'm finally getting much better, and happy that I'm slowly finding my sewing mojo again :o) Hope it will last for a looong time now!
During these two weeks, I've been spending some time with my laptop, 'googleing', 'facebooking' and visiting blogs. Haven't left so many comments, but really enjoyed some eye candy :o) I finally got to trace some of the stitcheries from Bronwyn Hayes' BOM. It's just so cute! The Catalicious BOM quilt. Go check it out :o)
I had to order some DMC threads to get this started, so I made a call to Quiltegården, and they sent me the ones I needed in the mail :o)

Not much of a progress, but I'll get there :o)

I've been playing with my new fabrics this weekend, and today I finished some more blocks on the Schnibble quilt I am making. I'm working on "Short story", the large one. I just had to order the fabrics from the new Moda line, BLISS. It is gorgeous!!!

I didn't follow the pattern from the book well enough, and the blocks are not the same size as in the original quilt, my blocks turned out a little bit smaller (Because I didn't read the pattern good enough... guess my mind tricked me a bit. Well... that's what I want to think anyway...).

We've had some lovely Autumn weather the last days, and last night the temperatures got below 0!!! Winter will come soon, and then it will be Christmas. I'm not at all prepared for that! But I guess I don't have a choise... Better get to figure out some Christmas presents soon :o)

A little bit of this and a little bit of that

I was supposed to write a blog post last weekend, but time just flies...
Last weekend I managed to do a little progress on my Schnibble quilt. My sewing room floor is still occupied with this quilt layout, so I guess I'll have finish it soon...
It's really not so much work left, since all the pieces are already cut out. It's just me, struggling with some "low charged batteries".

I also got to piece together a row of flying geese last weekend. I used it in a class I teached at Quiltegården earlier this week. I made the block for this evening class a while ago, so I didn't need to prepare so much.
It was my very first class, and I was sooo excited!
I've met most of the ladies earlier, and it was so fun with such patient students!

A lovely lady from Seattle, Denice, came by to see what we where up to, and it was fun to have a 'drop-in student' :o)

At the bottom picture, you can see what came home with me from Quiltegården that night :o) Some lovely fabrics, and a Japaneese book with lots of gorgeous patterns!

A couple of weeks back, our furball Fabian got so sick that I had to go to the Vet with him. Poor thing was loaded with fever, and didn't want to eat or drink anything. The Vet thought it was an infection caused by some cat fight he've been through, so we went home with some medicine that should make him well. The medicine didn't show its work until the fourth day, and then he finally got rid of the fever and started drinking some water on his own. Before that I had to feed him water against his will, but I had to so he wouldn't get dehydrated.
He is now gaining some weight and looking shiny and 'himself' again :o)

Like I told you in the previous post, we've got Autumn here now. I took some photos early one morning, and the mist had just left the ground with lots of spider webs loaded with water pearls. You should have seen the sight! It was so special! It almost looked like the webs where frozen!

I also took some photos while me and Hubby went for a walk later that day. The colors haven't changed too much yet, but I will definitely take my camera with me when I go for a walk again soon. It changes so fast!

My new quilt and OPAM report

Time flies, and suddenly we have to welcome Autumn here. The leaves are changing colors and they've already started to fall from the trees. I like the Autumn because of the colors, and it's cozy to light lots of candles around me in the evenings. It's a bit cold and it's raining a lot, but that means I can spend more time in my sewing room from now on and not feeling guilty about staying inside more :o)

I've been sewing just a little bit, and I've got only one finish for August OPAM. But I finished my secret quilt, and I'm working on the quilting now :o)

I cannot make up my mind about the quilting, so I can make the cubes stand out as much as possible. but I am quilting in the ditch along the light areas now, and we'll see what I decide for the rest. I haven't used any pattern, so I just designed it myself using the 60 degree ruler.
The quilt is made from fabrics I've already got in my stash, so it feels great to do some stash busting :o) It also have a scrappy look, and I love that!
The quilt will be used to teach a class later this Autumn, and when the class is over the quilt will be delivered to it's new ower, my oldest son. Finally he will get his first quilt!!!

Remember the cupboard me and Hubby worked on earlier this Summer? We finished the painting a while ago, and he also changed the glasses in the doors, with some that looks a bit old and they remind me of quilt blocks ;o) Nice :o)

Guess I'll have to get back to the quilting again :o)

A little purse/pencil case

I did finally finish my little make up purse (or maybe I can call it a pencil case?)
I finished this sweet little purse the other day, but haven't got to make any blog posts yet ;o)
So now I've got at least one finished project for OPAM this month :o)

I think it's really cute, and I am going to keep this one. But it was so fun to make, so I know I'll be making some more :o) Perfect for presents!
I did hand piece the blocks on the front, and both back and front are hand quilted. It was a little tricky to sew around the curved edges since I'm not used to sew like this, but the book explained well how to :o) LOTS of great 'how to' photos!
It's a book by Yoko Saito called "Les Lecons de Patchwork" Lecon 1.
It contains a lot of great projects, mostly small ones but also a beautiful larger quilt.

I'm also working on an other Schnibble quilt. I did cut all the pieces this weekend, so it's just sewing for a while now :o)
It's the small X-rate I'm working on, and I'm using the rest of the fabrics from the fabrics I bought a while ago. You know, the "Pure" fabrics. I just love these colors!!!
I'm still waiting for the line of fabric to come in yards, so I can finish my first Schnibble quilt :o)

I've been hand quilting a bit lately too, but it's been hot lately, and it's impossible for me to sit outside in the sun quilting. Swetty fingers are no good!!!
But I look forward to get some more progress on the hand quilting project again soon.

Some sewing :o)

I've been hooked on the Schnibble-mania going around. These quilts are sooo fun to make, and they are fast to make too!
I bought the new fabric line called "Pure" at Fatquartershop to make one of these. The only thing is... they don't come in yards yet... But the main part of the quilt is done, and I've cut all the bits for the outer border, so now I just have to wait a while so I can get the light border fabric, backing and fabric for the binding. Really look forward to finish this!
No finishes for July Opam for me, but hopefully I will have some this month. Fingers crossed!

Earlier I told you about working on a secret project. Well here it is. This is a photo during the hand basting, that took more than 8 hours to do... But I got to start on the hand quilting late last night, and I made some progress today too :o)
It's a wallhanging from one of the Japaneese books I've got. I've been planning to make this for some years, and I finally made it!
Guess I'll be using some hours on the hand quilting, but this one is really going to have "the look" I want :o)

I really like the Japaneese fabrics with their special, kind of dusty, color tones. After I learned a few tricks by Yoko Saito when I attended her class, I liked these projects even more.
When I was at Quiltegården a while ago, I bought one of Yoko Saito's books that has some really great projects. One of the projects are a little purse I want to make. Haven't got to finish it yet, but wanted to show you how it looks while I'm working on one of the two sides. I'm not following the pattern, and I made mine with blocks like the ones we learned at Yoko Saito's class. The blocks (I call them Happy blocks) are hand sewn, and I am working on the hand quilting. Almost there ;o) This will be such a cute purse :o) Will try to finish it during the week that comes.

Cutting some strips

I've been cutting a lot of strips from some of my Japanese fabrics today. I am making some blocks by hand like the ones I learned at the class with Yoko Saito. They are for a project from the book by Yoko Saito, the one I bought at Quiltegården the other day. The project in the book are not made with the same blocks, but I thought I should add a 'personal touch' on it ;o) I'll show a picture later, when I get some progress done.
The strips are made for both regular quilting fabric, and the ones with structure. I really love these taupe ones!
You can see how the blocks looks like, lying next to the strips ;o)

The project is a little toiletry purse, and it's just sooo cute! Look forward to finish the two pieces I need to make for the two sides of it!

It's called 'Blå valmuesøster' in Norwegian, and it's english name is 'Himalayan blue Poppy'.

Shopping and some new stuff :o)

Yesterday I went downtown, shopping at Quiltegården. My favorite quilt shop :o) It's been a while since I last time, so it was so good to see Siw again. I did spend a few hours looking at fabrics and stuff, and had a nice chat with Siw over a cup of tea :o) I took a few photos while I was there, and this is just a few yummy ones ;o)

Lots of inspiration, and candy for the eye...
Yummy fabrics, beautiful quilts and LOTS of lovely threads! I love variengated threads, and among several embroidery threads, Siw has got the hand dyed threads from Cottage Garden and the Cosmo Seasons variengated thread from Lecien. There are also a lot of gorgeous ribbons in her shop. Wish I could put the whole shop in a shopping bag and take it home with me :o)

I brought some treasures home with me. A pattern of some gorgeous needle pillows by Leanne Beasley, some fabrics, ribbons, purple (of course purple) variengated thread and a really great book by Yoko Saito.

I just had to trace and start on one of the stitcheries from Leanne's pattern last night. And I also traced two of them for my mum, so finally I got her to try stitching :o)

I haven't got time to do many stitches today, since last night Hubby finished the shelves he was making for me.
The other night he got to put the shelves over my cutting table up on the wall, and yesterday he came home with the shelves he built for me, to have under the cutting table. Now I'm able to organize my strips and pieces in bins so they will be easier to use :o)
I've been working the whole day sorting stuff in my sewing room, so now it's tidy at one corner of the room ;o) Tomorrow I will continue organize the rest of the stuff :o)

These three books came in the mail today, and I cannot wait to make some of the quilts in this books!!! Inpired by Kvilstina, I just had to have the Schnibbles book ;o) And I definitely reccomend all three books!

But first of all, I'm going to make a project from the Yoko Saito book. I'll post a picture when I've got started ;o) Just have to finish tidying the sewing room first :o)

I've been neglecting my blog for so long, but I've finally got some of the urge for doing some creative work back, and feel like posting some stuff again :o)
I've started on an other 'Precious things' bag. It's nice to enjoy some sewing again!
This one is going to be a gift for a friend of mine ;o)

Some weeks ago, I got three little treasures. It's three gorgeous timbles. I got two of them from my mom from her little trip to Sweden, and one from a kind colleague from work.
I guess this is a start of my timble collection :o)

It's my second week of the Summer Holidays, and so far the weather has not been too good. It's been too many days with rain, so me and Hubby figured we could finally start the painting some of our furniture. It's an old cupboard we got from Hubby's parents about 15yrs ago, and it's not so nice looking anymore. But some paint can really do wonders!

We rubbed the whole thing, and we're painting it white. It will need to be painted with four layers till we get the paint looking nice, and we're done with two already :o) It looks great already! I'm so excited to finsish it, it looks so empty in our living room without it.

I'm off to do some sewing in my sewing room now, so I can get some progress done.
I'm working on the 'secret project', but I'm almost there, and will show you pics when I finish it ;o)

Yessss! I made it! I finished my 'Precious things' bag, so now I have one finish for the OPAM this month :o)

Funny how these little finishes makes me happy. I guess it's good for your selfesteem to finish up things you've started, even the smallest things, right?
It sure feels good to finally have some sewing time again ;o)

I am trying to learn a few things about my new camera, and a thing or two about how to capture interesting photos. The more I learn, the more I realize I don't know...
But I try to play with my camera anyway, and I hope to get to understand some more as I go.
The other day we had a heavy thunderstorm with lots of rain. When the bad weather was gone, I took my camera with me outside. I love to look at the raindrops that is left on flowers and things. This is some of the photos I captured:

Another secret project ;o)

I've been doing a lot of cutting for a new quilt lately. This is my secret project number two ;o) Last weekend I got to start piecing, and I'm so excited to see the quilt is 'growing' :o) I have no pattern to follow, so I just do whatever I think looks good! I will show you the whole quilt when it's finished, but a little sneakpeek:

I will be working on this quilt this weekend too, and I look forward to get to the part when I can attach the borders!!! I will have a challenge when I get to the quilting, since I haven't figured out that part yet. I've used mostly my Japaneese fabrics, and it will be a quilt for a boy. This quilt is perfect for scraps, and you know how I love srap quilts :o)

I finished the stitchery for the 'Precious things' bag I started working on a whie ago, and I got to attach the stitchery to the front of the bag too. I'll get back to it when I finish my secret project :o)

It's raining and it's cold here, even if it's almost Midsummer... too bad, but I will spend the weekend in my sewing room, so I don't let it bother me. But it would be great with some sun and warmer weather, so I hope this Summer will not go by with only weather like we're having these days!

I have a day off work today, so I'll get back to my sewing room to make some progress ;o)

I haven't done much in my sewing room lately, like I thought I would. I have so many projects to finish, but with no energy to work on them and a neck not working with me these days, the projects have to wait. But I've been looking for inspiration among a lot of great blogs. I've discovered several ones I've bookmarked, and I thought I would share some of them with you.
Stash Manicure by Jantine and her friends, they are having a stash manicure challange you might want to join.
Magnolia Bay Quilts by Kim, she is the author of Scrap-Basket Surprises. The pattern for the "Kitchen Sink" quilt I am working on is from that book. Kim makes some really beautiful quilts!!!
Cotton Way by Bonnie, and her daughter's blog Siplify, is also two blogs I really wanna follow. Yummy colors and patterns!!!

One of my all time favorite flowers are 'forget-me-nots'. Since I was a little girl I have picked these for my mom every Spring. This one is from my mom's garden. I didn't pick it, just captured it in a photo this time :o)

May OPAM report and some new fabrics :o)

I've managed to finish only one project this month. But one is better than none, right?
"Lappeløper" design by Annaka in greens and turquoise :o)

I think it's sad that it's been so little time to sew for a long time, but I'm going to make some progress from now on. I hope to get some more time for blogging too, since it's too long between my posts. I've been both busy and tired, and I hope to get my "batteries charged" soon. I just need to get my shoulders down to where they belong ;o)

I've been sewing some this weekend, and here is a sneak peek from the project I've been working on. It's a "secret project", so I cannot show you the whole picture yet, but I will in a few days ;o)

I went down to Quiltegården at Friday, and I couldn't resist some of the temptations Siw is having in her shop. The only thing I really needed, was some blades for my fabric cutter, but I ended up bying some fabrics and a pattern, too ;o)

Yummy stuff :o) I've already started working on the stitchery for the largest sewing bag, and I will use these two fabrics for the bag. It will be so nice :o)

A beautiful day :o)

It's been such a beautiful day today! Hubby, our two youngest and I had a great time with my brother and his kids today. We took a walk through the forrest to a place we've been going to since me and my brother where kids. The little lake was still covered with ice, but since we brought our fishing gear, we tried to catch some fish. We didn't get any fish, but we enjoyed the day by the fire, drinking coffeè and grilling hot dogs on the fire. It was so cozy! I love days like this! This is what I call quality time!

Piece and quiet... that is so nice. And to sit by the fire chatting and laughing... Love it!

I've bought myself a new toy, a Nikon camera, and of course I had to take some photos :o) I'm not used to this type of camera, so I've been playing some with it these days, and also went to a little "photo safari" with my oldest son yesterday. He has been teaching me a lot, and he is still patient when I come to get advice about "good photos".

When we got home today, I was so tired and just wanted to take a nap, but I figured out I should do some progress on the table runner I've been working on instead. I'm so glad I did!
I got to finish the applique part, so now the only thing missing, is the binding :o)

Think I'll leave that till tomorrow. Now I really have to jump to bed! With that overdose of fresh air, I cannot stay awake any longer :o) Tired, but oh! so happy :o)

Finally some sewing!

I haven't got the time, or energy... to make any progress in my sewing room for the longest time. I just cannot figure out how the last three weeks could pass by so fast!
So much "have to"-stuff, and no "want to"-stuff... and some migraine in between :o(
I've really been missing to do something creative!

Today I got some hours I could spend in my sewing room, and I got to piece together a table runner. I did cut the pieces a long time ago, and they have been lying on the floor in my sewing room just waiting for mee to get the time.
It's another "Lappeløper", and I'm going to applique a blue flower on it, but first I have to finish the quilting. I did trace the lines, so it's ready for quilting now :o)

It feels good to finally get back to my sewing machine again, and I hope to finish this table runner in a few days.

A couple of weeks ago, I had a visit from Sølvi. We had a great time making kits we brought to our quilt guild meeting last week. Even if the sun was shining, we spend some hours indoors, spreading all the fabrics we've got for the care quilts around, and made a lot of beautiful kits. I think we made 28!

Some of them left the quilt guild meeting with some of the ladies who wanted to help us make some care quilts, and some ended up with me and Sølvi. I hope to have time to work on a few of them soon. I've already got some ready for quilting, so I think I'll start with them.

Work in slow progress

Things are going a bit slow with me these days, but progress is progress, right?
I've finished a few more blocks for the "Kitchen Sink" quilt. I really like the way they turn out!

I have a day off work tomorrow, and hope to do some more blocks between some house work. I've decided to arrange the blocks a bit different than in the pattern, and that's why I've been sewing four blocks together to make the finished block. It's a lot of piecing and ironing, but it's so worth it! Look forward to figure out the two fabrics I'll need for the two borders :o)

The Spring is finally here now, and so much of the snow has melted during the last two weeks. Nice!
I am looking forward to be able to sit out on the porch a lot more, and just to feel the sun warming :O)

A new scrap quilt

I had a day off work Friday, and most of the time I spend in my sewing room, I did a lot of cutting. I actually cut pieces for the whole quilt I'm going to make. I bought this book a while ago:

Just searching randomly on the internet after scrap quilt patterns, I spotted the book at Soft expressions' web page. The nice thing about this page, is that they show the content of the books, so you know what patterns you will find inside :O) I think that's great!

The funny thing is, I dicovered the quilt I wanted to make from this book, the day before my book arrived, at Wendy's blog, "Snippets of a Quilter". The pattern is called "Kitchen Sink", and I just love these blocks! So many possibilities with this pattern!
I am still sewing the pieces for the blocks, guess I'm half way or something.

This is how it looks so far:

I've several more colors that is not yet finished, but I think it looks great already :o)
The blocks are set on point in the pattern, but you can also just sew them together in rows like in my layout. I havent made up my mind about that yet, I have to finish the blocks first. I've cut more pieces of fabric than required, since I want the quilt a bit larger.
This is one of my favorite patterns till now, and this pattern must be a perfect one for the care quilts I am planning to make :o)

Quilt guild meeting and some care quilts

My local quilt guild is having their monthly meeting tonight, and Im really looking forward to it!
We are going to have a second hand sale tonight, and everyone that has books, patterns, fabrics or other quilty stuff they no longer need, can bring it and sell it to other members of the guild :o)

I am also going to hand over three care quilts to Sølvi. I quilted two of the quilts an other lady in the quilt guild made, a while ago, and got to finish the bindings today :o)My mom made one more care quilt, too, and I think she did a great job!

I'm attending a little contest on Lappedilla's facebook page. It's a UFO contest that everyone that is a fan of the page, can attend. Just for fun :o)
I got to finish a table runner today, that's been in my UFO bin for some months. Only half of the binding needed to be hand sewn, and it was finished... Don't know why I let this one just lie around that long... It took me a couple of hours only... Well, now it's finished :o)

I love the fabrics with the coffeè theme. I've got curtains on my kitchen with coffeè theme too, so I've finally got a table runner that goes along with them :o)
Guess I've got an other finish for the OPAM this month :o)

My first finish for OPAM, April

I've started so many projects during the few years I've been sewing, and I've got so many UFO's... It's a shame, I know!
I started working on this toiletry purse some months ago, so it's not the oldest UFO, but I finished it late last night :o) Whoowhoo!
To finish a project, big one or small one = satisfaction!!!

It's my own design, but I wasn't too happy about piecing so much by hand on this purse. Unnessesary to do so much hand sewing on a project that is going to be used, instead of hanging on a wall or something. The zipper, binding, and closing of the sides are done by hand, because of the curves. Thought it would be too hard to get nice by using the maschine.

I didn't get to make any progress on my 30's quilt yesterday, but I hope to get to work on it later today. Or maybe I'll dig out an other UFO? Who knows, I work best doing the things I wanna do, there and then, sometimes. I change my mind so quick, I just don't plan too much, I end up doing everything else, anyway. LOL!!! But that's me :o)

Some new fabrics to play with

I have been adding some new fabrics to my stash. Just couldn't resist to play with some of them today :o)
I've been wanting to make a quilt in 1930's reproduction fabrics for a long time, and now I added enough different ones to start. I am going to add some yellow and orange ones too, but this is the blocks so far:

I haven't decided how to arrange the blocks yet, but I will make some more blocks before I make up my mind. These fabrics makes me think of SPRING :O)

Guess I'll be making some more progress on the quilt tomorrow, so well see how far I will get during the Easter Holidays :o)

A cozy Sunday

Today my sister-in-law, Mona, came to my house for some sewing together with me. We had a cozy time, chatting, laughing and a lot of sewing. She did a great job on her table runner. She finished the top, and now she's looking forward to continue with the quilting. She was pretty satisfied with the result herself, too :o)

I was downtown to Quiltegården the other day, had to show Siw the result so far on the purse we started making last weekend when I attended Yoko Saito's class;o) I'm a really slow hand quilter, so it takes time for me to finish this project, I guess... But I'm enjoying these pieceful moments of hand quilting.
But after a couple of days working without a timble on my left hand, my fingers got so sore! I just cannot get used to the timble!
Siw showed me some new stuff she's got in her shop. Instead of a timble you can use a small metallic gadget with a tiny pad of doblesided tape, and you put it on top of the finger you work with from under the quilt, and it worked! I'm quilting faster now :oD
On the right hand you use a little leather gadget instead of a timble, and with these two, it is much easier to hand quilt! Yay! I really found my way to do the hand quilting :o)

I've managed to attach the binding on two care quilts today, so the rest of the evening I will continue working on my hand quilting skills :o)
